You need to be very careful. If your ex is not paying his debts, the creditors could very much apply for a charge on the house even if the debt is protected. This is exactly what happened to me. My ex left (mutual agreement), a month later he was made redundant, and I started to get letters coming to our house and phone calls from the companies. I would tell them that he didn't live here, but they didn't care and pestered me days on end. It was extremely stressful. I knew some were looking to put a charge on the house, I tried to negotiate with them, offered 50% of the money but they refused. They took him to court (he didn't attend) without notifying me and the judge agreed the charge. More companies threatened to do the same. Thankfully, at this stage, my ex agreed to sign the house over and I just managed to get the mortgage company to agree to transfer to me. The companies did try, but there was nothing they could do at this stage. I had a very lucky escape as it could have been much worse.0

Take any letters addressed to him, write something along the lines of "Lying Scumbag no longer at this address" and pop them back in the post. Job done.
OP - Have you thought about getting a lodger? - it will give you company, extra money (might make the difference for the mortgage people) and it would make it harder for hm to just turn up...0
