*Sticks nose out from under rock* is that chocolate? *sniffs the air* *coughs at all the dust and cobwebs she's sucked in*...golly...bit dusty and echoey around here....

Well, I tell you, this being unemployed lark really isn't all it's cracked up to be... I've really struggled with the motivation of an over-fed cat, and the cognitive skills of a stagnating flump. :o

Where were we when last we communicated? Ah yes, I'd broken the seal on applying for jobs - well, nothing so far.... Fair enough, as in hindsight I'm not convinced I've done my best on a couple of the applications...live and learn. Have a couple of HR people I know crawling over my CV as it's been a millions years since I did one for the private sector so fresh eyes seems like a plan.

Sooooo, obviously I disappeared back under my rock for a while.... Don't get out the sympathy violins just yet though - it's a phase, and it'll pass....aided by the extreme amount of housework I need to do. If it gets any worse in here, either the BBC or Channel 4 will be sending in a film crew to make a documentary about it! ;)

Despite all the navel-gazing, and general avoidance, I did manage to sort myself into some structure, which includes four afternoons a week 'volunteering' (read: helping a mate in need) with horses and dogs. Hard graft, outside (read: either very wet or sunburnt), and largely just me and the animals...brilliant. I'm convinced it's keeping me sane - I know that by the time I'm half way through work this afternoon, my cobwebs and general 'meh'-ness will have been blown away (or harrumphed off), which is perfect.

Not sure if others feel like this when they've had a stint of what we'll politely call the 'meh'-ums - but for me, it feels a little like coming back out of hibernation. You're still a bit up and down, but you know there's more up than down....and it's nice to get some fresh air and perspective. So I did a new SOA this morning and had a bit of a 'doh!' moment on the level of unconscious spending I'd been doing. Back to the listing pad and pen for spends, and my menu plan is already done. :)

Also need to sit and go through the growing pile of extremely useful stuff in the corner of the room which is heading for ebay/charity....other people's money - you shall be mine! :rotfl:

And I've been annoying the glass again... may have bitten off more than I can chew with this vase though - it's neverending!

Gosh - that's big, isn't it?? Sorry, been a while since I used Photobucket and it's got all newfangled in terms of editing! Anyhoo - two sides down, two more to go...and that's just the first coat! :D

Righto, best be getting on...I have a menu plan to follow for lunch! ;)

It might be never ending but it is lovely!

Glad you have the animals keeping you sane, at the moment I think I need some of that treatment too before you start hearing in the news about someone going mad at an army camp and throttling half the soldiers.

Been feeling a bit like this myself pet x I don't eat properly and have been feeling really lethargic and flat, so I have bought myself some supplements and took my daughter for a bicycle ride
along the seafront last night and am feeling much brighter this morning.

Hope you manage to stay on an upward path Nora, the glassware is looking fab xx :T

You sound like you're doing ok but in need of a bit of a boost? Has the sun managed to throw some colour and warmth to help you?

That vase does look so vibrant and lovely. Your creative touch makes it look so perfect.

Your volunteering sounds great. Especially if you're getting the same weather as we're having "back home".

In case you need a little boost, I have something for you....

I really am a little yellow ball with no nose and tiny lines for eyes and mouth! I've only got one hand too, so take the flower quickly before I roll forward and onto my "face" :D

Thank you *blushes*. I'll keep an eye on the news! ;)

Ta very much. I can't tell you how much better good food and a bit of fresh air makes things...though my inner sloth is a big fan of smash and grab through the fridge. :D So jealous that you're near the sea - though the countryside is looking gorgeous in the sun today.

*snort* Ta very, MT *grabs flowers and steps out of the way of MT rolling, Indiana Jones boulder-style, around the place* You're so lovely....:kisses3:

The sun does make a big difference (doesn't it always?) - though it's not always fab for the outdoors work...a hot and sweaty Nora is not what the average horse wants wandering around their pad!). Been a real mix up here - gorgeous days like today balanced with torrential downpours (often saved for when I'm in the middle of horsepoo-picking!)... but truth be told, I don't mind the rain - so long as I'm within reach of a hot shower and a cuppa afterwards.

You're right about the boost - some of it is job related (though since I plan to win the Euromillions this evening, a job won't be an issue....:rotfl:), but generally I'm getting pretty good at managing a little DIY-boost. Just writing about being out and about has me smiling, and each time I drive through the fields (well, not literally...this time of year I'd come a cropper of the combine harvesters!!) I can help but feel I'm in the right place (again, not literally - people, I am no field dweller!!). Damn, that sounds smug doesn't it? Meh, never mind! :D

Been doing chores this morning - have a friend coming up from Kent this evening, and I'm going out on a limb here, but I suspect she's going to want clean linen on her bed and food in the fridge......

Best get on then. Have a good'un.

Hope you have as good a time with your friend as I did mine - luckily mine doesnt make such unreasonable demands as clean sheets and food!

  • Hi everyone

Those of you who know this diary will know that I have a bad habit of saving up my filing, paperwork and general admin-related tasks until it becomes something of a forest fire threat...which inevitably leads to Bureaucracy Day.

Bureaucracy Day is the day when even I can no longer ignore what needs to be done - and in this instance, is also part and parcel of a huge clear up and out I'm doing (read: 'started a while back, and gave up halfway through').

Obviously, part of this day requires a level of quality procrastination - so here I am! :D

Nothing majorly new on the job front - I've applied for a few things, and have had my CV reviewed by a friend in recruitment and HR in the private sector (so very different from the public sector!). Current challenge is sending the CV off to various Agencies. It's one thing to decide you are ready to work, and quite another to be facing up to the reality of actually doing so! :o

In the meantime, I've been planning. I love planning - have I mentioned this before? I'm much better at planning than doing...which is a bit of a thing...but moving on swiftly....

I'm planning to move again - ha! just when you thought I'd settled down....

I've decided, having done a bit of a long-term view, that I really need to consider renting something cheaper as I eventually want to buy my own little home. I know, I know - no job, previously dodgy money habits, and she's talking about buying a house!! But here's the thing. I've tucked away a chunk of my redundancy, and am living off the rest while I psych myself up for another job. As I'm looking to ease myself back into the working word, it's unlikely I'm going to be earning a decent amount for a while, so I figure it makes sense to plan for an all-round tightening of the belt

I currently rent a huge place from a lovely friend who needed someone in her house while she tries to sell it - and I needed somewhere in the midlands to rent. I get a good deal on the rent as I'm doing her a favour and I didn't need to worry about proof of income, references etc when I moved in as she knows me well. I'm paid up on rent for the house until the end of November - which will be my 6 month point up here in the midlands (Lordy, how time flies), so we've both got another three months to work on getting her a buyer, and for me to sort myself a job and find somewhere to rent longer term.

I know that moving will be expensive (I've got quite a bit of experience at it these days!!). But in the long-run, it'll save money as renting a smaller property will save me a considerable amount of money in rent each month - and likely to be closer to the area where I spend most of my time (and hopefully where I'll be working), as at the moment my petrol costs are far higher than I'd like them to be.

Nora's Thoughts bimbles along. I have more to do with it - and have started on Christmas bits already (I love, love, love Christmas!), but things around here a really quite disorganised at the moment and anyone who has been a student knows full well that you can't get stuff done when you're surrounding by chaos...

Which brings me back to Bureaucracy Day, and I'd really best get on with it.
