Ahhh, you're all wonderful - thanks for the advice (and Scuba... nice try!).
It's weird isn't it - we're all working so hard to rid ourselves of the debt, but staying out of it is another mindset altogether. I hadn't prepared for that, and had been heading straight back down the silly spending route before I slapped myself upside the head yesterday.
So I'm taking Dr Dragon's advice...and yes, Rosa, I've rectified the chocolate problem (though I think I'm about to cause it again...:D).
And it's time to turn over a new leaf, SOA etc. I love being out of debt - just need to shift my mendset from 'you can spend!!' to 'protect your ability to spend!!'.
Oooo, and I've applied for a job. Nothing huge on the money stakes, but the advert grabbed me by the throat and said 'apply for this immediately'. I haven't had that in 15 years or so, so I thought I'd better got for it. Plus ANY money coming in is going to be good. I'm not expecting to hear anything for a while, but the application itself was a huge step for me (having not worked in so long), that I'm pretty proud of myself.0 -

I would disagree with that. The mindset that helps you get out of debt (looking for bargains, not buying unnecessary crap etc) will certainly help you stay out of it. The difference is purpose. Not yours, your money.
When you're in debt, when money comes in, it already has a destination - pay off this, clear that. Now you're in debt, your money is stuck there, like your toilet has blocked, and the desire to flush three times and see it leave is strong.
Now you can just leave it to hang around like a teenager in a bus shelter, drinking White Lightning - or you can make it work for you. Savings' accounts are a good idea.Knitting_Nora wrote: »I hadn't prepared for that, and had been heading straight back down the silly spending route before I slapped myself upside the head yesterday.
Well you're prepared for it now. Make it work...Knitting_Nora wrote: »Oooo, and I've applied for a job.
