  • By buying it you're helping our impoverished exchequer out; so you're doing us all a massive favour.

They can be a good investment. As long as it's not too 'unique'.

I can't think of anything more pointless than a personalised car reg plate... but I view cars as donkeys for getting a job done, 100% practical.

Saw this one recently, sums it up:

Mate of mines a copper. He says they love 'em.
Very easy to remember, spot and seldom get cloned. ;)
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

If you do want to do it, do it right. If you don't have something that is obvious to read then it just looks desperate, likewise if you have to have dodgy spacing or dodgy screw holes don't bother.

Short, obvious and/or dateless is fine, but its still possible to look like a PEN1S (Its a real plate)

I'd agree with that. If you're called Fred Bloggs and like (and can afford) FB 99 then go for it. If you're called Terry and want T3RRY and you can outbid all the other's then - it's your money. If you can't afford that so go for TE03RYY then you're veering into the knob territory:)

I once saw (my initials)1 for sale at £25,000. I've never had a car worth that!

Subtle ones can be fun... In Central London there is an Aston Martin with 4NON. Non-subtle ones - well - in Hammersmith I once saw a BMW 3-series with B16 PEX. So many reasons to assume the driver is a narcissistic idiot:doh:
I need to think of something new here...

    His surname is !!!!?

    His surname is Clock?

    His initials are OCK?

Would you not concur its you has the problem with someone driving a jag and having a personal plate, rather than the guy driving it?

I was behind a DB9 once, I knew it was a DB9 as the number plate was 'DB9'

There's also TWA 77Y flying about somewhere. I saw it years ago on a Merc

It's a completely frivilous way to spend money - if you're ok with that, then go for it! If you're not, then don't!

They are a pain though, you have to pay to keep them on retention if you don't have a car for a while, and ultimately you just end up spending money for the privilege of displaying a particular set of numbers on your car. Unless your name is actually E343 FDC I really wouldn't bother tbh!
