I've seen the perfect registration plate for my surname.
It costs high £,£££.
Part of me wants to buy it because it's super cool and if it gets snapped up, it's gone forever.
However, the other part thinks, I will see it for about 2 seconds per day as I approach my car, and it would be an irresponsible purchase for anyone with a mortgage and not-unlimited savings.
Any advice???

I agree with the other part's way of thinking. Keep your money for important stuff/rainy day.
If you do go ahead and purchase the plate ask yourself will it be easy to sell on if in financial difficulty. The answer will be no is you have an uncommon surname.
Personally speaking the idea of having a personal number plate no longer has the image it used to have. Why not get a lettering transfer and put your name on the boot lid or by the driver's door handle etc. Minimal cost.Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems Well at least i learn something on the way0 -

Don't do it. Almost everyone will think you are a knob.:)0 -
Why not have a show plate made up at fraction of the price? You can have you name on it and no need to alter any numbers etc and also you can have it in any style you want.
Naturally you can't use it in place of your normal reg. plates but you can put it in the back window.Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems Well at least i learn something on the way0 -
If you do want to do it, do it right. If you don't have something that is obvious to read then it just looks desperate, likewise if you have to have dodgy spacing or dodgy screw holes don't bother.
Short, obvious and/or dateless is fine, but its still possible to look like a PEN1S (Its a real plate)0 -
I was behind a BM the other day with FET 15H as their number plate.
With regards to a private plate; if you want it, go for it as you can transfer it onto every car you'll own until you can't drive any more. Just make sure it's not too 'new' so it won't go on other cars!
I lost mine a few years ago as i was supposed to be putting it on retention after i sold the car but i lost the new buyers number.0 -
It will never make economic sense to buy it, but hey ho, what does these days?
If you can afford it, reeeeally want it and don't change your car too often then why not?? (change over can be a hassle).
To quote an old Jimi Hendrix lyric;
"I'm the one that's gonna die, when it time for me to die, so let me lead my life, the way I want too"
;)
From a "knob".
I agree that these plates aren't as attractive as they once where, most of the simpler more desirable No's having gone, and also due to the use of these for corporate advertising where companies buy up whole series of plates for their business. So spare a thought for the "knobs" with company cars that don't have a choice in the matter. (having thought about that sod 'em they get the car, they should be "lablelled")I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
My advice: change your username if you decide to go ahead with getting your poncey plates0

Private plates are for "look at me" people. Insecure people running scared and dominated by EGO.
Never mind.0 -
