Because it's basic hygiene when you are preparing food.
Kirstie made a big thing of saying how fastidious the judges were and what high standards they expected so we are only following on from what she has already said.
Tying hair up, washing your hands (as Justamum pointed out) and removing rings etc is no big deal and for some of us is automatic when preparing food.
I'm beginning to understand now why teachers have been complaining that small children at school cannot blow their nose properly, wash their hands or even eat food using a knife and fork. If their parents don't bother, why should they?:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
No, no, no, you're being ridiculous with your conclusions, and very insulting.
We don't all have hair long enough to tie up, and even if it is, short hairs are just as likely to fall out as long ones.
We don't all wear nail varnish, but if I did, I would not remove it every time I walked into the kitchen.
Removing rings I do automatically, but plenty of people either would not or could not remove their wedding/engagement rings.
None of that has anything whatsoever to do with children not being able to do any of the above:(0 -
I really enjoyed last night, was a tad suspicious about our girl getting 2 prizes at first but remembered what the expert had said, ie points awarded for using a variety of different stitches, techniques etc; Kirsty used different hand and machine embroidery stitches, applique, patchwork, etc so I think that gave her the edge... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

My fingers have a tendency to swell since an operation on my hand last year. Sometimes I can't get my rings off over the knuckle. But I always use a nailbrush when I wash my hands before cooking and I move the rings so that I can scrub where they were. Best I can doIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0

Were there only three needlework classes? It didn't seem many for a show of that size-and there weren't many entries either.0

caught most of the show this afternoon as it didn't record properly in the week. Didn't see last weeks but like with the cake episode I'm a tad suspicious at the results...
I thought the soluble paper or whatever it was called was really clever. Would it work without machine embroidering I wonder ? i.e if you did freehand stitching ???
ordered the book on a whim. hope its worth it!0 -
I've been enjoying the programme, and taking it for what it is - entertainment!
I am a Kirsty fan, I like how passionate she gets, and the fact that she shows when she is frustrated or she can't get things right - I am exactly the same!
As for getting coaching - if I was entering a competition, and lacked a bit of confidence, I would get someone to give me some help and advice/go to an evening class/read a book.
So Kirsy has professionals showing her? Who cares! As I mentioned above, the show is for entertainment, and it might be a bit dull if it was the wiffie next door showing Kirsty the ropes! I don't class it as cheating, its enterprising!
I think one of the main benefits of the show is that will spark an interest in people, of village/county shows. Tbh, its not something that I would have bothered about before, but now I would at least go along. Also, a few of my friends have said that they would be the same. If it raises the profile of crafts, and of county shows, then I am all for it, nail varnish or not!0 -
I would love to love this prog, as I love loads of crafts but sadly the woman irritates me to distraction....her voice.......nails down a blackboard :S I might give a book a go though...don't have to listen to that0
