  • How hard is it to tie your hair back before cooking? Surgical gloves are 99p for a huge pack if you don't wanna mess up your manicure. My seven year old wouldn't eat the food prepared in her kitchen.

Loved the series but do feel it's cheating to get industry experts to coach you so intensely before entering a competition for amateurs. For it totally goes against the spirit of the type of competition she's entering. Her afternoon tea entry in my eyes was a travesty - and totally unfair to the other entrants. I can't help wondering how her fellow competitors will feel when they watch the programme and realise how much help she had.

For me a large part of these competitons is the spirit of the thing - a chance for ordinary housewives to show off their skills and in doing so swap tips and skills etc. My Granny used to enter stuff like this and each year she'd come away with a few nice recipes written in her notebook to try over the winter. It should be about community.

I do agree that it is cheating - however I really appreciate the spirit of the show. She's trying to get more people into home made crafts, hopefully she will make the exhibitions even more popular next year - and ultimately she's trying to prove that anyone can have a go. I'm pleased that all of her ideas so far have been easily achievable at home (minus the sewing machine!)
  • I am not sure if anyone has written this already, but I am sure I saw in M&S Kristies range. Not 100% sure though and probably a bit pricy.

She's had her own bedding range out for quite some time (haven't seen M & S but local dept stores) - it's very expensive and nothing special to be honest.

I so agree about the tying hair up etc but many don't see it as a problem. I think the judges would though if they found a hair in a cake.;)

Some of those cross- stitch pictures would have taken months to complete and were clearly in a quite different league to Kirstie's stuff which took maybe half an hour.

I enjoy her enthusiasm and interest and, like others, I think it's good for people to try out various crafts. A lot of these shows are stuck in a time warp though and are judged by people who are looking for tradition, perfection and presentation. I think it would irritate the hell out of them to be presented with a card made from a paper cut out and machine embroidered.

Just finished watching it on iplayer, cant say I enjoyed this episode. I did enjoy the show though, I live not-a-million-miles from Builth and it was good to see it. The Champion of Champion's woman, they should do a show just about her and what shes made over the years, her crafting is exquisite.

That is very sad... I am not sure drama queen covers it. You were very unlucky. On the stall and friend.
But really, no one is going to watch a lady who is dressed in white suit, hair tight in a net and is going to bake on industrial scale...
Everything with a bit of balance, you know?

At the end of the day, I doubt mothers baking for their children school stalls take their nail varnish off before they start...

Sadly you are probably right - a few years ago I bought some home-made cakes from a stall at my daughter's school. I found a hair in one of them which put me off so I threw them all away.

When I'm cooking I always wash my hands and put a hair net over my hair (it's too short to tie up) because on a couple of occasions there has been the odd hair in bread when I've baked, and even if it's your own family there's nothing more off-putting than finding hair in your food.
