I adore black cats, but unless someone knows of a kitten going Free to [strike]idiot woman who is a complete soft touch[/strike] Good Home, it's not going to happen.

  • Sorry to hear that, Fly-catchers :(

This is Winston, the 5 year old cat we adopted from the CP in May this year, after the sad loss of our previous feline lodger, Benson, who was 19 years old. I've only ever had black or black and white cats :)

    And this was Benson.

So are Newtons! Not sure if all cats are like that and its just more noticeable in black ones?

  • mmmmmm my old cat was black & white (although had a white chin so maybe wouldn't notice).

Tortie has a white chin too and I've never noticed any fangs - will try to get close enough when she's asleep to have a look (wish me luck!)

I adopted my all black cat Tilly from Cats Protection in Jan, she was the last left of the litter as no one wanted her. I think people think they are evil. I must live in an evil street as there are 5 black cats in our street.

Isnt there a saying it is bad luck to have a black cat run across your path?

Shouldn't Black Cat Awareness Day be on Halloween? Of course that's when they all come out and turn into evil personified - hee hee :rotfl:

When I got my two from Cats Protection 12 years ago, they had four litters of black kittens, that they were having trouble re-homing because people just overlooked them and didn't want a black cat.

Luckily I was the complete opposite and was actually looking for a couple of black cats! That was on 31 October funnily enough ...

I think that's probably the reason people don't want black cats, because of the superstitions that surround them, but they have always appealed to my witchy nature!

Also I thought black cats were lucky? Isn't that what they always have on good luck cards?!

  • I have to say that given a choice I'd always choose a black one .... Archie's like a big sleek panther.

The only downside I've found to having an all black one (as opposed to B&W or the tortie) is that's it's impossible to find him outside at night. ;)

I can spend ages hunting for him and he'll suddenly go "miaow" from beside my feet. Now the tortie - I can find her even at the other side of the field as the torch highlights her white bits.
