Another use for it is to break it up and use it in place of broken crocks in plant pots. It helps with drainage and you need less compost. ;)

And also, as it is very light makes brilliant drainage stuff for very large heavy pots...because it'll stop them being so heavy you have trouble moving them.

The flip side of that is that I 'got rid of' three bags of rubble in my huge pot that I never want to move again! LOL!

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker I've been Money Tipped!
    Morning all.

This is a bit of a flying visit as I'm in the office and should really be doing some work, but there's some seriously nasty Things lurking in my inbox so I thought I'd come here first. :o;)

I've been feeling really chilly for the last couple of days and only worked out why when I started sniffling last night - it looks like I've got a cold. :( Luckily I stocked up on non-special offer tissues yesterday - one pack was 70p, the 'special offer' 2 pack was £2.01. :wall:

Good luck with the move, Jo (although you're probably long gone by now) - I look forward to meeting your ginger friend. :)
Back after a very long break!

Good luck with the move :).
On the subject of slow cookers, I got one for my 18th and I loved it but it was a bit little. I then got a mahoosive one 5 years later for a wedding present. I loved that too. I wore it out though :( the dial bit at the front kept falling out and I was a bit concerned about it. It got to the stage where DH said I was not to use it when I'd been on a night shift because the house could burn down with me in it  and he wouldn't be able to save me (see he loves me really :)). We had had it for 9.5 years by then and boy did it get used! So my lovely cousin when he rang last year to see what I wanted for Christmas was told "Ooh yes please, there's a massive slow cooker on offer (somewhere) for £19.99, I saw it on the grabbit board today. Could I have that please :D -but you'll have to be quick before it goes OOS!". The chap pulled a doozy and off he toddled. Then he carried it across London (I really hope he didn't try and cycle with it on his back ) and brought it home for me for Christmas. He's very good really considering he's a single fella. He always goes and gets the right thing if you are after something specific. He gets fab presents for the kids :D we do love him :).
The weather's gone really cold here so I think I can feel lots and lots of sc meals coming on here. This time of year, it never really gets put back in the cupboard. Sometimes I pop it out in the utility as there's a little more space out there.

I have a breadmaker. I got my first from freecycle and then bought this one when I saw it on offer. I'm a bit meh about it though. I much prefer to have the dough belted around in the kenwood and then pop the 3 loaves in the oven when I'm cooking tea. Heat once pay once I think. We found we were unable to get the dough hook out of the bread without ripping the middle of the loaf out :(. Someone on here gave me a gorgeous recipe for the bread she makes and it's so easy. Basically 1 bag of flour a bit of yeast a bit of sugar and some water bashed around, left to rise and Bob's your Uncle! I'm looking forward to getting the Kenwood from my Dad. Yummy bread. I have loads of linseeds too in stock. I can't put any other seeds in yet as DS balks at them but he can cope with Linseed. Very odd child :p.
I have 3 pigs trotters in the freezer. Any ideas? I made soup from one but it used a packet of bacon too so was quite salty. Very little meat on them too. Think I'll use all 3 together next time and try to make a thicker soup with some blended potato unless any of you guys has a really great suggestion. I'm happy to be experimental :D.

PS, D&DD, I remember your apple bread thingy from a couple of years ago (I forget the thread :o). Does it work with pears? If so, would you be able to spare a numpty the recipe please?

    Hi Kaz,

This is D&DD's original recipe: Apple braid I haven't tried it but I imagine that it would also work with pears. :)

This thread has advice that may help too:

    D&DD's Apple braid, + variations??
