OK - I'm going to leave this to my son to do!

    Thanks

Seriously though, follow closed's clean up instructions before we update the Driver.

When you decide to get him a tower, for god's sake don't buy off the shelf, you need custom-built, not mass-produced stuff.

Be interesting to see what you do about a graphjivs upgrade- in my experience they cost a fortune and are a nightmare to fit!

    Re: HJT Log:

The majority of it is web-related addons for pdfs, zip files etc. totally unnecessary at startup. If you want rid of all the toolbars, the easiest way to be rid of half of these toolbars is go to IE>tools>internet options>advanced>reset and let it disable them all.

A malwarebytes scan may get rid of a few things too.

After that, it's just browser addons, toolbars and stuff. So, I would disable:

    Hi OP.

It seems to me like the problem with your sons games is that the games he's trying to run just aren't suited to the system he has. That said there's still quite a bit that can be done to try speed things up.

Firstly, looking at the report above, I can't help but notice both AVG & McAfee running. Anti-virus can be quite resource-intensive so I'd recommend removing one (personally I'd remove McAfee and keep AVG). This should help free up some resources.

There's another program running C:\Program Files\iBryte\playbryte\iBryteDesktop.exe - this is just a worthless thing that potentially facilitates malware installations so I'd get that removed. Think it's something to do with browser games but not sure - would need to google. I'd also get rid of C:\Program Files\Windows jZip Toolbar\Datamngr\datamngrUI.exe - general consensus from what I've seen is that this is malware.

All these I'd consider getting rid of or at least disabling from startup until needed (not necessary but I've a habit of disabling everything until I need it!):

    C:\Program Files\Google\Google Desktop Search\GoogleDesktop.exe
    C:\Program Files\Dell\MediaDirect\PCMService.exe
    C:\Program Files\Ask.com\Updater\Updater.exe
    C:\Users\theresa\AppData\Local\Google\Update\Googl eUpdate.exe
    C:\Program Files\IObit\Advanced SystemCare 5\ASCTray.exe

To do most of the above I'd recommend downloading 'CCleaner' from Piriform. It's completely free. Download, install then run, click cleaner and then let it do it's thing in finding all the useless junk and removing it. Then click on registry and let it find and repair anything it needs to do there. Then you can also click on Tools and from there you can then uninstall unnecessary programs and disable the useless startup bumpf you don't need to be running. While on the Piriform website maybe take a look at 'Defraggler' too - run that to defragment the HDD - basically it'll move all the game data together so the computer isn't searching the HDD quite intensively to find game data while playing (helps with in-game performance).

The McAfee thing is only securityscanplus - it's a manual scanner that downloads with things like flashplayer and is unnecessary, but less of a liability than every other Mcafee product ;)

Incidentally, for downloading applications minus all the addonns like toolbars, use ninite.com - brilliant little site.

This is only personal preference/laziness, but I never defrag my drives at all - the drives are so quick these days that I trust them to keep up, especially as NTFS is pretty difficult to fragment. I tell customers it's up to them - worst case scenario is it makes no difference, best case is you see a slight improvement.

It seems to be common of late for people to post things twice, or more, in multiple threads. OP has another thread ongoing with the same hijackthis log in - people might want to read/add to that before spending time duplicating effort.

At least this OP will probably return, read, and thank you for your contribution, many don't bother.

If they log off immediately after posting and don't have a high post count, there's a high chance they aren't coming back. Some of these are spammers trying to get their post count up with fake problems.
