They're getting on a bit now and this year has shown me how blooming expensive that's got the potential to be. There's only £32 in there at the moment, but it's a start.
Ohhhh I wondered what I'd done when I saw my name :rotfl:- just as I'm trying to reduce my ridiculous number of pots too! (Down from 8 to 4:T).
I separated out the pets several years ago when I was still deep in debt - mainly as I never wanted to be stuck if something happened and I had no access to funds to get it sorted - it's worked well so has stuck.
It also means I can bulk buy their foods etc which makes huge savings (dry food is £8.50/kg in wee bags but reduces to £4/kg for 10kg bags when on offer).flying_fresian wrote: »Part of the issue is that Mr Fresian is trying out lacto-free milk as we think he might be lactose intolerant. We're using the same volume of milk, but it's costing around £1.20 per litre instead of 89p for two litres
Sympathy in great bundles .... I've been on Lactofree for around 18 months now & it's made a huge difference but at around £8/week does hit the budget hard (and one of the reasons I never get my groceries bill down!).
I'm currently trying Cravendale - I thought as it was extra filtered & more bacteria was removed than "normal" milk, it was worth a try. Still more expensive than "normal" stuff but cheaper than the Lactofree.
Still undecided TBH as I have good days & bad days (but do anyway so hard to say if it's the milk or not) but def better than I am on "normal" stuff - may be worth a try to see if it works for him.:)
ETA - I know men don't like the Drs but they would be able to send him for lactose intolerance testing - not intrusive or painful.Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

No change from yesterday apart from a wee update that I now have £15 in my purse that I had forgotten aboutMr Fresian paid for the shopping yesterday which was a big help - it was only £14 but will make me much less worried about how we'll feed ourselves in the coming week
I've also liberated £3 from his wallet which will cover some biscuits from the second purse for him - little does he know I cleared out local Sainsbugs of short-dated Chocolate Clubs at 44p per packet and am buying them back from myself at £1 :rotfl:

Haha! I have always used lots of pots for budgeting and don't see the need to change now - I would prefer to have more to be honestHaving one for the pets just seems like a good idea, especially as they're really getting on a bit now. Cat #1 is in really good health, but Cat #2 often has eye infections and so on and our vet is VERY expensive. Hopefully setting up a wee fund will help. I don't know what amount to budget for yet in terms of monthly payment, but will put pennies in for now until the car is paid off. Once that's done I'll increase the amount I put in the car pot and start bumping up the cat pot. I'll have an extra £107 per month after all
I don't need to budget for cat food as it all comes from my monthly grocery fund - thankfully doing the Second Purse system has worked well for that. I'm bulk buying around every two months at less than £6 per bag and paying £8.50 per bag from my grocery fund. That helps to build the second purse up again for the next bulk order

A very productive forty minutes with a butterknife has yielded £100 in £2 coins from my terramundi
This is going to:
£29.97 on a new printer as I broke mine using cheap ink
£23.26 to pay off my outstanding credit card balance
That leaves £46.77 to use for my car payment or to add to my savings, I'll decide about that in the morning. Not bad for time spent while watching the telly though

£20 into my ISA, £8.78 to my loan and the remainder was used to increase the amount in my pets pot to £50.
I've only been up for ten minutes and could cheerfully crawl under the covers againI've got Fat Club tonight for the first time in a fortnight and don't feel too good about going. I've not been behaving

As I've finally got Mr F trained to tell me when he takes food out of the stockpile, I've moved some food money around this morning.
The food purse is now at £25.73 which is accounted for by buying teabags/margarine from my own stockpile and by an excellent haul of whoopsies last night - four pack of muffins for 40p, fruit/veg at 10p each etc. The second purse is now at £40.47 which means that on payday I should take it over £50 which means I can move some money to savings. Woo!
I should only need milk, fruit and veg until payday as the freezers are groaning0 -

I think I'm going to end up owing my second purse money, as I have six days to go until payday, but that's the beauty of the system - you can wait until payday :rotfl:

mmmm this is something I'm going to have to think about too - I currently have 2 .
Both are identical (DF & I bought them years ago in a sale) - his stopped printing so he gave it to me as ..... mine's stopped scanning!:p Bit of a pain as really don't have room for both of them - maybe a new printer pot is also required!
But ... while I can still do what I need to between them ......flying_fresian wrote: »

I'm lucky in that my terramundi isn't "for" anything, I just throw all my £2 coins in there and empty it when I'm skint/need something. Luckily it was able to pay off the small credit card balance I had this month (under £30) and buy me a new printer as well as adding a wee bit to my savings.
I'm really annoyed about online banking still not showing my loan. I'm going to be writing a letter of complaint when my printer arrives on Monday
The shower gel offer you mentioned sounds pretty good, but I'm trying not to overstock. Unless they have mens gels too.....I could buy some for Mr Fresian. I normally use Soap and Glory shower gel and buy when it's on 3 for 2 - you think yours is expensive, this one is £6.00 a bottleI justify it because it lasts for months[/] as each bottle is half a litre
