I found this thread again this afternoon. I looked at that same quote earlier on and I did have a wry smile.
Still, without a crystal ball it can sometimes be difficult to predict which way rates will go. The rate rise this month took many leading economists by complete surprise.Please call me 'Kazza'.0 -

But it wasn't the direction that caught them on the hop - it was the timing - most of them had predicted it back after the last rise - but they thought it would be Feb or March before it happens.
In my crystal ball - I see a hold in Feb and another raise by 0.25% on March personally.

Halifax usually put their rate up at the last possible time of the month after the rate rise.Save save save!!0

Just had an email from Bradford and Bingley.They are increasing their online rates the full .25%.Last time they didn't increase the Isa,which i have,by the full amount.
Now stands at 5.55% and the savings at 5.60% so not bad.0 -
Bradford & Bingley e-Savings 1 & 2 are also increased to 5.6% AER

Nice to see someone pass on the increase promptly, on top of what already was a pretty competitive rate0 -
Smile doesn't appear to have increased its savings account rate for ages (still 4.25% but only if you have a Smile current account). Time to migrate, as Smile is having a laugh I reckon.0
