Best thing to do is email them.

Yes, I emailed them and got a standard reply saying what the new delivery estimate was (mid December) and saying I could cancel or buy the same item from another seller at a higher price. I just don't know whether to trust them and wait or look for something similar...

With that timescale you could look for something similar (or better) and then cancel the original order if you find (and have delivered!) a replacement. I'd guess that you'd find something better, if you're not specifically after that model.

Be minded that Black Friday starts 21st November with Amazon and there are always laptops up for grabs. I was lucky and got a Toshiba last year for well under £300 brand new.

    Thanks for this Withabix.

My son wants one mainly for internet and playing Football Manager on.

I am totally clueless when it comes to laptops. What is the difference between a Core i3 - and a Pentium processor (which is what I think I've always went for!!)

I had been looking at these one or this one.

I know they are more expensive but if the Toshiba one would work just as well I might go for it.

(If it's still there by the time I stop dithering!!)
  • hi guys saw this a month ago and been looking at different things, see they have a 30 refund policy any idea of this covers postage as well, cant see it on the site anywhere

Select free delivery, for a start.

Return postage isn't covered unless it is faulty.

If you are returning one, it is likely to be faulty, even if it is just a BSOD ;)

If you are returning because you have changed your mind, it can be returned via Yodel (new name for HDNL) and the cost is usually around £5.

Do you get a full warranty with them though? And able to extend it?

No, they are Used - customer returns or warranty repaired stock.

That's why there are sometimes some REAL bargains. You pay for warranties in the price when you buy new goods - you don't think manufacturers and retailers provide warranties for free do you???

Warranties will vary in length, depending on when they were originally sold.

You do however have some Statutory/Consumer Rights, which will exceed the 30 day Amazon returns period.

Extended warranties can be purchased from many computer manufacturers' websites. It would depend on their policy if they will extend or not.

In any case, better value after-market warranty insurance can be bought online.

    Take a look at this:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Asus-K53SC-SX017V-Notebook-i5-2410M-2-30GHz/dp/B005N6ZFSS/ref=sr_1_10?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1320775504&sr=1-10

Still pricey at more than five hundred pounds, but Amazon claim that the saving is more than 99 per cent! In other words, the original price was almost one hundred and five thousand pounds (the cost of a half-decent flat)! Surely some mistake? Any thoughts on whether this would be a good machine, even at this price?
