Really good to see you back Mr3Dogs.

When I had the op it was for different reasons but I remember the tiredness well. I also went off the booze, I rarely drink now, though I think the idea of being drunk in charge of a stoma bag may have something to do with it :rotfl:

    I didn't go off chocolate though :D

What an eventful night I've had

I went along to Mr T just after 6pm, had a good wander around looking for bargains and picked up a few whoopsies but nothing startling, and when I left there at 7.30pm I went further into March to the chinese takeaway and got Alan's special curry & chips and special rice with curry sauce for me. When I got back into the van, I put it into reverse to back round the corner I was at and heard a 'twang' noise. I gave this noise little thought until I stopped and tried to put car into first gear to find it had been the clutch cable snapping and I now had no clutch  The pedal was flat to the floor and I could flop it up and down with my foot :( I put it into 1st gear and then tried to start the engine but the battery was weak and wouldn't turn the engine over :( Rang Alan to let him know what had happened and then rang breakdown service. I couldn't for the life of me remember the name of the main road I was just off and the guy couldn't find the side road I was on using his map. But I told him roughly where I was and 15 minutes later the local breakdown truck driver rang me to confirm my location. He arrived 5 minutes later and used a jumpstart to get car going, bumping it to start the engine and drove it up the ramp onto his truck. I was pleased with the speed of recovery as I'd rang them at 8pm, guy arrived at 8.20pm and I was home at 8.45pm, so that's not bad ;)

Oddly enough, the driver was telling me that his brother died of bowel cancer, which went to his kidneys, then up his spine to his brain and he'd died within 6 weeks of diagnosis which was out of the blue. He was only 24 yrs old :( At least Alan has got out of hospital and has some time pain-free to enjoy life ....... makes you think though. I know we all say enjoy life as you never know what is around the next corner, but I think I'll be going in straight lines from now on ... no corners for me   :rotfl: :rotfl:

We did have a laugh on the way home though as I told the driver that I had ice cream in the back of the van and chinese takeaway in the front, and didn't know which I should put in the cool box. I'd settled on the ice cream going in there as I waited for the breakdown vehicle as I could always reheat the takeaway but thawed ice cream?  it doesn't refreeze well :(:(

Alan was concerned about me although I'd rang him again when truck arrived, and was feeling very upset when I got back as he felt useless at not being able to help or sort it out for me :( We will have to get a mate to have a look at it and fit a new clutch cable if necessary :(

p.s. Alan enjoyed his curry ;)

sorry to hear about clutch 3Dogs. Pleased you enjoyed your curry rice and curry chips.

All this talk about curry and chips, I bought DS and me chips and sausage (for him) and curry sauce for my chips for tea last night. DH is away for the weekend.

You shouldn't refreeze thawed icecream - something to do with bacteria. If it is soft but not completely thawed, ie runny, it is fine to refreeze it. but if it is runny, throw it.

    Hi everybody !

NICE TO MEET YOU MR3DOGS!!! :j

Been a bit of an odd week so not much time for posting, had to work a couple of extra shifts, Nick been a bit flaky on the new pain meds, they switched him from tramadol to oramorph liquid and its been a bit hard, his feet have really swelled up and we were a bit scared in case he could take too much but apparantly its not addictive if used for pain! they will be converting him to slow release tablets soon so that will be better.

Daughter witnessed her downstairs neighbour beating 7 bells out of his girlfriend and called the police who arrested him, have been a bit worried about repurcussions but none so far.

Ha ha Hantsindebt! No meds for his Pompey following but at least he's true to his roots!

Sucks about the car 3dogs, has Alan not got the mobility part for DLA? or have you not heard yet? Don't wait too long for their decision, I heard nothing for 3 weeks after claiming so had to call them but they did backdate it to the date of the claim. The DS1500 is meant to fast track it. Nick got both at full rate.

How is your back doing Beanie? Hope its easing now.

Aesop I too love the EDF guys but my favourite at the moment is the colemans (I think) gravy bull! He just struts about looking really proud of himself!!

    Take care everyone

Sorry to hear that Nick is suffering on his meds. Alan was on oramorph for his sciatia before all this happened, but didn't have any side effects, and is not addictive when used like this. Can cause constipation though  but what pain-killers don't? I have to use Movicol (sachets) daily to counteract the constipation caused by long-term use of co-codamol and now tramadol :(

Alan hasn't heard back from his DLA claim yet as the forms were only completed l0 days ago. We were told it might be as little as 2 weeks but with the Easter weekend, it is more likely to be 3 weeks :(

We have been looking online at the Mobility site Beanie but not actually been to a garage yet as I am still frightened that he won't get the mobilty full rate :( I know he fits the criteria but with our luck lately ....... :o:o

Relaxing day for us. No car boot visit without the van on the road :(

Difficult night though as, due to Alan's curry & chips late last night, I was up 3 times during the night changing his stoma bag after leaks. You don't need the details :o but that'll teach him to chew his food properly  ;) Lots of washing today too :(

After the last bag change at 6.15am, Alan got up and stayed up, watching the grand prix, then classic car restorations followed by the afternoon footie. I stayed in bed to catch up with my sleep.

Alan had a look through the workshop manual for the van and has decided that it is an easy job which should take about an hour, and thinks that he can manage to do it  Our friend Stuart rang and, as he is away Mon-Wed this week, said that he will do it Thursday, but then he rang another friend who can possibly do it for us on Tuesday, and failing that, he suggested another friend who we could ring to ask and, given the circumstances, would be sure to do it for us. We are spoilt for choice for help which is wonderful but Alan says he will try to do it himself. I suggested that he tried tomorrow to remove the old cable and see if he can manage. The part will probably need to be ordered tomorrow for collection on Tuesday, so if he has got the old one out, he would be able to fit the new one then. He is on strict instructions from Stuart, and from me, to take care and not push himself too much, and to leave it if he has any problems whatsoever ;)

We shall see what tomorrow brings ;)

Well I was going to bed about midnight but started doing swagbucks searches and a couple of surveys, but I am definitely going to bed NOW

P.S. just realised that, with not going out today, I haven't got a Mail on Sun code  Anyone got a spare one please :o

    Night night all :D

If you like I can pop a pack of Secuplast in the post for Alan to try. Nick stockpiled after sweetcorn (machine gun effect Ha Ha!)and Chemo! It really does help to secure the bag and prevent leaks. PM your address and if Alan gets on with it he will be able to order it from the suppliers. They don,t tend to tell you about things like this and Niltac because they are quite expensive but are a godsend!

    Take care
