Yippee, free training to stack shelves.:T

Since you seem to have so much experience in training, perhaps you could enlighten us with your opinions on how the long-term unemployed should get back into work then?

Why is it that so many people can't understand that businesses can't magic up jobs simply because people are unemployed?

Really? because to listen to some people on here you would think that there are plenty of jobs, just lazy scroungers who dont want to take advantage of them.
If there arent jobs for them to send people to, as you admit, then Then what the hell is the point of the Work Programme?

To exploit the unemployed and to make the government look like they are doing something towards solving the unemployment problem when its just Bulxxxxx.
Its propoganda, getting tough on the dirty, lazy, unwashed, benefit, daytime t.v watching scroungers-the unemployed. Make them work for their benefits instead of scrounging from the morally correct, hardworking, upstanding, employed, taxpayers of this country.

exactly. so its a waste of time going to one of these companies with no jobs available to do a placement. also why do they always say if you work hard you will have a good chance of a job?

I was told this b4 i went on work experince (which starts NEXT Mon btw) that if i work hard I MAY get the chance to work there in the end.

Funny that cos the lady who interviewed me last wed said to me there were no jobs available. So work programme is A LIE!

But still gives me something to do so.... :):money:

It's maybe true that there wasn't a job at that time. But that doesn't mean that there might not be someone leaving next week or next month. Or even that if you impress sufficiently there might not be a temporary job opening up that they create just to keep you until the find something for you. Or maybe in three or four months they have a vacancy and remember you - lots of people get jobs by word of mouth rather than just applying. Yes, it's a chance and it may not happen - but it also might. It actually does happen to people - why not you? Just stay positive - you have the attitude that will get you there in the end.

    They shouldnt be.
But if they have trained and gained qualifications in their career over a great many years, they shouldn't be expected to work in fast food or sweep streets either. They should helped to find work in their profession.

As posted previously I was made redundant from my admin job and took the first job that became available - as a cleaner. I didn't feel belittled in the job and I did it to the best of my abilities, as I would any job.
Judging from the vast number of graduates that applied for an admin job at my workplace there are many people who would be happy with ANY job to start with, you can't hold out for your ideal job role if it's not there. Although judging from some posters I'm guessing that's exactly what they will do.
I agree there are a shortage of jobs and perhaps these placements aren't ideal but what can it hurt? A few weeks wasted - have you anything better to do?

Self-confidence for a start. The thought of doing exactly the same role as another whilst they receive a wage and you receive JSA is utterly depressing.
We're forever hearing from politicians and the like that work gives pride, gives you self-worth, but always miss out the key detail about work - being paid.
The ultimate reason anyone goes out to work is for a wage and while to someone in work who assumes that jobseekers do nothing with their time than to sit down, crack open a few Special Brews, and watch daytime telly, it actually entrenches the view that they (the people on these schemes) are not worth a wage at all and a good dose of patronisingwill do them good.
I remember just a few years back that full-time employees would treat agency workers like rubbish just because they were agency and could be got rid of at a moments notice. What's the betting with "work experience workers"?
