Work Experience while on Jobseekers Allowance (WORK PROGRAMME)

I am also currently out of work and claiming job seekers I have been out of work for 3 months and on my last visit to the job center I cried to the adviser I hate having to go into the jobcenter and I hate not doing anything. The adviser has put me on something similar just so I can get out of the house and feel like I'm doing something at least, she also told me that people who do go into these positions sometimes get full time or part time work out of it. Also it is recent activity to put on your CV and if you need it a more upto date reference so potential future employers can see that you have kept yourself busy. I'm looking forward to my placement and I think its the least I can do.0

and with an outlook like that, you probably won't be out of work very long!:T0 -
I was unemployed for 18 months recently. I wasn't on JSA in all that time but had I been I'd have presumably been put on this scheme.. had it been around then.. but I have a degree and I have an NVQ level 4 in Admin and 12 yeas admin experience so what would I have learnt from a short placement with an employer with no jobs available?
How to write a CV0 -
But that wasn't the question. The question was "if I don't like the place can I just not go any more and still get my benefits". Not, "I have lots of qualifications and experience and I cannot see what I would learn from a placement". However, even so, I could see some possible benefit from a work placement after such a long period out of work - for example to show that you haven't "lost the knack" of work and can still manage to hold down work and do things like be on time etc. It isn't always about learning something - it may be about proving something. We all know that it is harder to get employers to take you as seriously after a long time out of work and such a placement may be useful in showing that you want work and are capable of working. Or it may get you a foot in the door that you wouldn't otherwise have had. Or yes, maybe it would have been a complete waste of time. But so what? Isn't it still the point that if you want to claim taxpayers money then you have to evidence that you are actually doing everything they require to find a job, and if this is what is required, then so be it. As I said, the fact you may not "like" a place isn't relevant - you may not like your workplace either, but that isn't a valid reason to pack in working and claim benefits.
You talk about "taxpayers money" as though people on benefits never paid taxes. Thats the trouble with some of the posters on this site, they have no empathy for people who have fallen on hard times, and are now having to rely on getting back some of the hard earned taxes they have also contributed over the years.
People on benefits are spoken to as though if they dont allow themselves to be humiliated and exploited by these mickey mouse schemes, and those in charge of them, they must be some kind of a scrounger.
I did warn you OP.0 -
What would you get from it? Main thing is recent experience - the longer the gap in your CV the harder it is to find anything.
Secondly it would give you something to do!
Recent "experience" in something irrelevant to your chosen career/ qualifications is career suicide.
People on JSA already have something to do......... like searching for a job in their field, not being used as free labour by some large supermarket chain. Which is also denying someone else a proper paid job.0 -
Interesting that the poster in post #2 thinks that the site they recommend is not judgemental.
Simply because a site tells you what you want to hear (JSA sanctions are illegal, for example) doesn't mean it isn't judgemental (or right!).
Its not judgemental for the person asking for help though is it? unlike your postings.0 -

Youre so kind. I'm sure the OP was very grateful.0 -

They shouldnt be.
But if they have trained and gained qualifications in their career over a great many years, they shouldn't be expected to work in fast food or sweep streets either. They should helped to find work in their profession.0 -

Yippee, free training to stack shelves.:T0 -
People are not getting jobs due to lack of work experience, they are not getting jobs because there are hardly any going!! So how does getting people to work in poundland help all the long term unemployed? It doesnt!
F*** the taxpayer, combined the unemployed have paid billions in taxes. They should be helped into proper jobs with proper prospects not be expoilted by Cr**** jobs!0
