Has anyone else noticed that it is no longer possible to buy loose tomatoes from Tesco?
I have three Tesco stores (3 of them very large) within 15 mile radius of where I live and I can't buy loose tomatoes at all - only pre-packed, over packaged ones.
Also noticed last week that the large kilo packs of their own brand plain cous-cous was labelled as discontinued on the shelf edge. DH tells me (he looks at the fun stuff you understand not the daily necessities!!
) that he can't get any large packs of bombay mix any more either.
So....is this the new Tesco ploy to make yet more money - only sell small sizes at a higher unit cost price and start making us buy fruit and veg packaged to their choice of size/amounts?
Am angry at blatant underhandedness of this and steaming at the idea of using yet more packaging! Have emailed their customer services with a complaint but am sceptical that they will take any notice.
I am trying really hard to buy as much as I can from my local butcher, and small Co-op, and I make everything I possibly can from scratch...but it isn't possible to re-source everything  much as I would like to.
B*%$dy Tesco!

Hiya
I think this one will be of interest to all shoppers, not just Old Style, so I'll move it across to the Shop But Don't Drop board.
(there's probably an "I hate Tesco's" thread over there somewhere that this could join)

The more I read about Tesco, the more I'm glad of my personal boycott against the company!
I don't like their (lack of) ethics0 -
Paperbacks have gone up by £1 in recent weeks.0

What were they going to do with it then? Surely if it is out on the shop floor it is for sale or have I got the whole idea of a shop wrong?True wealth lies in contentment - not cash. Dollydaydream 20060 -
Gosh. If only there were other shops from which one could buy tomatoes.0

That was my question too. They said something about it being recalled but when I questioned why a product that they were recalling was available on the shelf, they had no answer. Its not like it could just magic itself on there. If they knew it was being recalled they could have done what I did and gone to the shelf and taken it off. Since then, there has never been a large back of own brand rice available and I noticed today that now there is not even a space left for them anymore.0 -
So glad it wasn't just us who had thought this was a naughty thing of Tesco to do!!!If you obey all the rules...you miss all the fun!! Katherine Hepburn0

As a private company rather than a state run cooperative surely it is Tesco's business what products they sell and in what quantities/sizes and packaged how they like.
Tesco's business and how they run it, is Tesco's business, if you don't like it, don't go into Tesco and shop somewhere else, it's that simple.
When you present goods at their checkout you are making an offer in contract law terms, it is then up to them whether they choose to accept your offer to purchase or not. Tesco are not compelled to sell anything to you.0
