Plenty of loose tomatoes in my local store
As for prices going up and down and products being discontinued, ALL companies do it. It's called business.0 -

Pleased I'm not the only one trying not to use the big supermarkets in favour of buying from local shops. Yes, I will stock up on some items but lately I've been buying meat, fish, some fruit and veg (I grow what I can) and other household bits from local shops. I'm sure it's working out cheaper as I'm not tempted.
Very little petrol used but also the Tesco's near me are now sooooo hugh I really do get fed up walking half a mile round a shop to buy a few bits!Love living in a village in the country side0 -
as ive said in other threads i work there, to be honest i dont really like most of the companies rules but continue to work there as i need money and the flexible hours suit me for the moment.
however i manage to the produce department (well near enough) when we changed over from the summer to winter layout they only bought in loose tomato's on the vine which are like 2 to 3 times the price.
prices do fluctuate alot, its hard for me to keep up with some times. however im pretty sure the price of banana's does not change
other things dont make sense to me, as mentioned the withdrawal of some lines which in my eye's sell very well0 -
I too am on a personal boycot of Tesco, it's because of them that lots of lovely small shops have closed in my area.
They're ruthless, stopping at nothing to make extra money of people who probably can't afford to spend it in the first place.
Instead, I shop at farmers markets, greengrocers, butchers, fishmongers etc etc, where possible. Other times we have local stores that do a bit of everything so I go there or to Aldi (due to the prices!).0 -
All the everyday fruit and veg was available loose or pre-packed at the Long Eaton store (inc Tomatoes!
)
I must add that I was pleased that Tesco's had loose satsumas too - have never seen them sold loose in any of the other supermarkets - I have to buy a 1kg bag and end up throwing some away...0 -
anyone also noticed thats its only the seasonal fruit and veg that they seem to have on the half price deal??
also our store has had a major reshuffle so you cant find anything - lots of tescos value brands have gone up - not very healthy i admit but their own brand fish fingers were 19p for 10 - now they are 49p for 10!!
did pick up a brochure today thoguh that says they are reducing all the tea and chocolate biscuits, and general stodge though - most of it to under a pound - yey the healthy diets all th scheool kids in my local area will have!!! All our veg prices seem to have gone up too - some only slightly but still when your budgets tight it doesnt help!
Im thinking of startign to use the car boot sale - there is a fruit and veg man on there - thinking that might be cheaper - sort of buying in bulk though - and then usign the coop where i work for the other stuff - plus am half tempted to ask my father for a bread maker as my birthday present!!Time to find me again0 -
I assume `Tescos` new direction in sale psychology is intended to keep people in the store longer hunting all over for the items which were previously elsewhere, and buying more than necessary in the process. I buy alot of organic stuff but now don`t bother so much because it`s a bit more difficult to find ,mixed up with everything. So it`s good news for the independents, as I have re-discovered them. I used to spend £68 to £70 plus quid, almost all in `Tesco` but have now trimmed it down to nearly half that and the local greengrocer, healthfood shop, farmers markets and such are the beneficiaries. So a big thanks to `Tesco`(tongue firmly in cheek) for opening my eyes - you won`t find me sucked into their sales psych. And the parking`s free too - a very contentious issue in Lewes.0

Tesco are not the only culprits. Since our local Safeway was taken over by Morrisons, you can no longer buy loose turnips. They are now sold in multipacks of 4-6!"Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.0
