A typical Mr T way of slighly recovering profit lost from their R&R's & poor pricing.

  • Last week something I buy had been reduced in price from 42p to 39p to match Sainsburys (along with a nice big shelf edge proudly advertising the fact), went back in today and it's gone up by 10p!

You can't get large bags of their own brand rice anymore either.

A few weeks ago there was one on the shelf but when I got to the till they wouldn't sell it to me.

I ordered a small bag of rice a few weeks ago (tescos own) but instead recieved a huge giant bag for 50p . making sense now.

I've noticed quite a lot of items that I purchase regularly have gone up, sometimes not inconsiderably, in Tescos lately.

I bought loose tomatoes in out local Tesco just this afternoon...and last week they had large packs of branded rice BOGOF (both white and brown) maybe their own brand is not cost effective anymore.

I should imagine this is a very clever ploy , people notice the big reduction to 39p and then next week cant remember the tens, but only the ending penny or continue to assume that as it was cheap last week its cheap this week.

I think its fair to say that most hurried and harassed shoppers dont notice or remember the prices, which is why the supermarkets make such vast profits.
MSEers have to work quite hard to save money, but for most of us the effort is worth it.
  • i have found that they dont sell any organic items loose either and i end up giving half the bag away to friends so that its not wasted.
