Slowly coming out of the fog .... have managed to get a few things done today and have decided not to try to catch up unless I have to but to just dive back in where I am. So snowball on downward trajectory - Plan C fund stable and will be going up next week. Long to do list but have discovered Do it Tomorrow - simulates hand written list but you can push things across to tomorrow if you don't get them done - perfect app for procrastinators!
(and free on the web).

OK - still groggy but must get back to it. Growing backlog to get through and my To do Tomorrow list is running well off the page!
Good news this morning was the arrival of just over £300 for some extra work OH did last month - so that is earmarked for the Plan C fund - plus I have finally managed to cancel my correspondence course - a refund of £850 should be heading my way plus it is saving £75 a month. Win-win. So may hit my target of £2K to the Plan C fund by the end of the month yet.
Did a PAD today of £41 for no other reason than to see the total debt go under £48K and because there was money to do it.
Right - back to work.0 -
That little app sounds brilliant! And ye gods and little chickens, look at what you're doing to cut the budgets! Brilliant stuff.
What was your correspondence course in, miz? I've discovered openlearn, from the Open University, and its got hours and hours of study that I can count as CPD, all for free. There's also TED, Alison, even youtube ....2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -

Was a genealogy one but I haven't time to do it justice anyway so it can wait until I can afford it. I love OpenLearn and TED - haven't come across Alison - will check that out. You are right there is loads of free stuff out there - more than enough to keep me busy!0 -

£850 and rising for a ****genealogy***** course!
You listen to me young lady (ohmygod, I really said that in my head, I do apologise!).
On *no* account are you to go back to that course! Unless its something completely esoteric from the Society of Genealogists that will enable you to charge fees of £50 an hour ....
Seriously, miz, there's really no need to pay for a course like that. Join your local Family History Society, even if the family that you're researching isn't local. Join a national one for special interests - there's the Federation of Family History Societies - here's the link to their list of member societies, there's so many you have to use the tabs at the top

What I've found is that the most important thing to know is what records are available, and where they are - but that changes over time. When I started, births deaths and marriages were at Somerset House in central London. Then they moved to the Family Records Centre in Islington. Now they're at the National Archives at Kew (which is *the* most inconvenient journey for me, but its a great place). And of course, there's so much online, and more all the time. Even the Mormons are still at it - I dislike their motives intensely, but there's no denying they're a handy set of people for genealogists.
Ahem. Sorry about the rant up there:o:o

I'll run away nowIt was the IHGS one - was thinking at that point that I might like to do this professionally (but have since decided against that!
)
But I take your point. It is silly money.0 -
Morning all. First for a week that I have felt human! Bit dull here in Wales but heading off soon for a walk with the hounds - a short one as the lurcher hound is still nursing healing (I hope!) tendons and so is on three legs!
After that have a work report to write, some Welsh to do - and I want to get a blog post finished. Oh and had better sort out meal plans for the week ahead.
Have checked online banking and nothing untoward going on. Still have reserves to shift across to Plan C fund at the end of the week (I wait until I get paid so I don't leave things empty!). Still working towards £2K by the end of November (£2K a month would be fabulous!).
Have a good day everyone. Things seem quiet on here this morning - so hopefully everyone is out having a good time.0 -
Hi Miz,
I've been off work for the last week or so, needed to take some holidays before I lost themI'd planned on having the whole house de-boxed & sorted into some semblance of order by the end of it .... with time over for doing some batch cooking & RnR ... hmmm didnt quite work like that
Somehow managed to pull a muscle in my shoulder, so lost several days of shuffling n sorting (almost a week) - but did use that time to do some batch freezer cooking (as much as I could fit in the dual unit until I can access the big boy which has been hiding behind boxes ) But the shoulder has slowed me down alot, so still way short of my target:(
Great to see what you've achieved in the last week or so, brilliant :T Hope the furball is feeling better & improving fast :A

Shush. If it was going to save £850+ - it was well worth ranting about."Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)
"We were born and raised in a summer haze." Adele 'Someone like you.'
"Blowing your mind, 'cause you know what you'll find, when you're looking for things in the sky." OMD 'Julia's Song'0
