HI Miz - have you checked out Academic Knowledge as a source of money if you are good at academic writing... It seemed too demanding for me on top of my day job but could work for you?

Mmmm... rates of pay are tempting but I'm pretty sceptical about most students using this as "model answers" - suspect most who use this service hand in the work as their own assignment. I spent too much time dealing with plagiarism in my lecturing days to risk contributing to it from the other side! Shame really as it would be ideal for me.

You sliced off a big enough part of your thumb to stick it back on???? Thats called "time for a trip to A&E" - please!

As for trick or treating - I loathe it as a really recent American import, I really do. Halloween to me is apple bobbing! I moved house in August last year, so by end October I was still right in the middle of trying to get things straight etc etc etc - and in the few days before Halloween, I was interested to see lots of houses with signs going up saying "no Halloween activities here", something like that, I can't remember exactly what it said.

Anyway, hope you got a good night's sleep - and yes, hope you enjoy the flapjacks :):):)

The slice was a mm or two - hanging on by thread. Doubt will stay but covers wound while it heals. Not serious enough for A&E don't worry.

I don't mind T&T if they have made some effort (and as long as the leave off the trick bit!). When they just turn up with a plastic mask then I am not impressed. It's like the "carol singers" we used to get at old place - one line of "we wish you a merry Christmas" and their hands were out! We used to insist they sang the whole thing plus one more - usually scuppered them! :D

Halloween in our village is very well done - and I am one of those "turn off the lights and pretend you are not in" type of people normally, so don't generally embrace the whole thing.

However, when we moved to this village in 2003, I discovered that its not all bad, that when children, parents, and the community in general work well together, it really does work well, and a good evening can be had, with those wanting to partake being able to partake, and those who don't have their wishes respected completely.

Basically, if you are happy with trick or treaters calling, you make some sort of sign to "welcome" them - whether a pumpkin in your window, or a paper ghost stuck on your front door....that sort of thing.

And the "rule" is that you only call at those houses. Those that don't want to take part, don't.....and the kids leave them alone.

We have quite a lot of bungalows, particularly near our old house (I've moved to the other side of the village now) and so a reasonable number of elderly people who might feel intimidated, but I have never been made aware of it going wrong, - is very relaxed, and when I go to work the next day I don't see flour and eggs plastered all over the place, so that is good too!

I may not get over excited about Halloween still, but I do take part, make my paper ghost or whatever, and am happy to dish out the sweets!

It should do. I sliced about half an inch off the pad of my finger when I was a kid. Stuck it back on. Turned it round the right way up... and covered it with a plaster. It's still with me. It does show a scar though.

I dislike T&T, bonfire night (unless they're asking for stuff to burn) and Christmas...

Halloween (old-style) wasn't too bad when people carved out root vegetables. Now it's just a case of buying plastic flammable tat and going begging.

What a great idea. No idea if there is anything like that here - although I did see a note inviting kids who were T&Ting to meet at the community centre - so maybe it is more organised. Suspect they may not make it to ours - we are up an unlit lane with only two houses - they are more likely to stick to the main streets I think. (Convincing myself it will be fine if I scoff all the flapjack.... :rotfl:)
  • Hi Miz thought I would come and say hello as you so kindly posted on my thread :)

Some good monthly reductions going on there and they soon mount up :T

Renting seems a good idea but as the renting agent and the selling agent are the same I wouldn't take it off the market as you know transactions can take a long time to go through the last place we sold the purchaser gave us six months to find somewhere else to live so there are some purchasers that are willing to wait and you may be lucky :)

Don't like T&T myself but if it is well organised don't mind Kids having fun but hate it when they just use it to terrorise vulnerable people we used to run an alternative "light" party in the village where we used to live which used to be well attended kept the kids off the streets and they still had fun :D

Why not join us in our "Before Christmas" challenge? We will be starting again from scratch (and it is YEARS since I did it so am very rusty) but we can then all help each other along. Last time I did it I made well over £1000 before the deals started to get too complicated and time consuming to make me want to bother. Definitely worth it.

I need to open a new bank account too. Am going to get a Coop cashminder I think (unless anyone has a better recommendation?). How about as a first step we commit to do that next week DT?
