According to BACS, who provide the direct debit switching service,
    http://www.thesmartwaytopay.co.uk/SiteCollectionDocuments/Account_switching_timeline.pdf
    the steps should include
    1. Co-op tells (eg) Tesco "from now on, please collect in accordance with Mr Customer's direct debit authority with you from us (Co-op), instead of OldBank".
    2. If at this time Tesco is on the point of collecting from OldBank, they still can.
    3. If Tesco decides it has enough time to switch and collect from Co-op, Co-op should pay (if there is enough money/temporary overdraft in the account). If Tesco does attempt to collect from Co-op, and Co-op doesn't pay, that is very odd (since it's all automated), but it would appear to be a Co-op cockup.

My T-Mobile DD normally comes out of my Halifax today.

My transfer was not to take place until 15/11/11 but T-Mobile already had co-op details set-up on 03/11/11.

Anyway the T-Mobile is still listed with Halifax and Co-op.

Today it did not go out of either account. Rang T-Mobile said theres still time today... hmmm.

Co-op said they have not even requested it.
I paid T-Mobile the balance on my credit card to make sure they got paid!

But who has messed this up (its defo not me) T-Mobile, Co-op or could it be the old bank. My monies on the co-op and I'm not too happy about it.

Log in to my Co-op today and T-Mobile direct debit is showing with yesterdays date .... !!!!!!, yesterday it wasn't even requested.

two of my transferred DDs have not been taken from either my old bank nor the new coop account - both accounts show the DD in their list but not taken :(

I have chased this up now, one was with Direct Line - they said they had the new bank details but it might take a few days for it to go through, checked this morning and it has been taken from the new account.

The other missing one (so far!) was with EDF - they sent me an electronic message advising me that my request to stop collecting direct debit payments had been accepted and that I should now pay my bill manually! When I called them they had no knowledge of the new bank details, just the request not to pay the old bank any more. They set up the new details over the phone but I had to make a card payment to cover this months payment.

Called up today as I hadn't heard anything since my last call. Apparently my account was opened on Sunday and I should be getting the account details through the post shortly. I set up online banking and started the switching process on the phone. The person I spoke to said that my account didn't have anything attached to it about the £200 bonus but I read out the three criteria (applying before the 21st of October; switching within 14 days of the account being open; depositing £800 per month for the first 3 months) and he agreed that I was eligible, so he added the note to the account.

Hopefully everything will conclude smoothly since I have no direct debits involved. :)

Well, after actually applying almost a month ago I have finally recieved my debit card today along with my welcome pack.

Much to and froing of ID left me wondering whether I was still eligible for the £200. I called last night and was promised a call back today after the chap had checked with the "switching" team.

Apparantly I still am eligible so I submitted my switch last night of 2 standing orders from Nationwide, and I shall pay £800 into the account tomorrow after I get paid.

So my initial frustration has calmed somewhat let's see whether I get the £200....

You need to wait till they send you a letter with your completion date for the switch as after that date is when you make the first payment of £800.

Otherwise you might have to do it again
  • Just to add what happened to me...

Applied on line, eventaully got a welcome pack, then a letter saying they'd opened an account but I noticed it was not the one I'd applied for (and I have the confirmation email showing I did apply for the one I thought).
Called up, went through long winded script reading by them to end with "the computer won't let me upgrade the account - I'll call you on Monday". No call Monday so I called the next day to be told I would have to "appeal" for the account I originally applied for, fax in old bank statements etc.
Forget it, for me it's not worth the hassle and has me seriously doubting the level of customer care provided by the co-op.
Today I got a text saying they've asked my current bank for a list of direct debits to swtich - cheeky b*****s, I've already written to them to tell them not to. Called the current bank who've promised not to provide the details.

Doh! Why was I tempted by the £200?

I've just had all my direct debits transfered to the co-op and have just noticed a direct debit I dont recognise.

it is for "Close Brothers LTD", looking at their site I can see they are an investment management company - I have no dealings with them and matched all my exisiting DDs,

    Has anyone else had this?

i don't know why some of you worry about any dodgy direct debit - if it's fraudulent, you can claim back the money taken out the from the bank directly. the bank then chases the company for the money, so any losses will be on the bank when you've ask them to recall the money back / to "indemnify" you.

I'm not worrying about it just thought it was worth mentioning as looking at this thread the co-op dont seem to be doing too well in service but then again I supose we only here the bad points.
