Co-Op bank - £200 if you switch to them

Internet Banking
Today I set up internet banking over the phone which seemed a bit insecure as the person setting it up will then know all the answers to the security questions.
My surname is part of my email address and she spelt that wrong, though she must have seen it on-screen (and I gave it in my online application anyway).
The card reader is a nice little trap. As soon as I registered for online banking, I paid a pound in and out and thought everything was working. I was going to pay £1000 in today or tomorrow, expecting to move it straight out again. Now I don't know if I dare. I've got card readers, but no PIN yet.
As regards the switch, I filled in the online form a week ago and nothing has happened at all. Didn't give a mobile number so not expecting texts, but no other signs of life either. I'm glad I got an email acknowledging that they did get the form."It will take, five, 10, 15 years to get back to where we need to be. But it's no longer the individual banks that are in the wrong, it's the banking industry as a whole." - Steven Cooper, head of personal and business banking at Barclays, talking to Martin Lewis0 -
An update from an existing Co-op account holder: was texted this a.m. to say that Co-op have received the DD details and will advise the switch.
Frankly, this is the best service I have had from any of the 3 accounts I've been setting up this year. Am so pleased with Co-op.
Incidentally, regarding some people who are not receiving pins or other documentation, I had this kind of thing with all the accounts I set up (Santander, First, Post Office) and I believe the Postal system to be partly, if not totally, at fault!0 -

Learn the NATO/ITU phonetic alphabet and spell everything over the 'phone using it, even if they don't ask you. Many CS reps seem to have had to learn it. Speak the letters with careful pauses like you're an automated numbers station.
I mumble horribly by default and have to work hard to speak clearly - but it's really satisfying when I am understood first time!0 -
I was asked about the phonetic alphabet when I registered for internet banking. I said I understood it but couldn't speak it so it took a number of retries to actually get my email address across to them.
What surprised me was their insistance on the importance of your email address. They kept saying that unless the address was exactly right I wouldn't be able to login and if I ever changed it I must inform them immediately before attempting to login again. I've no idea why as its not one of the security questions.0 -
So far
19th - Applied for account
26th - Received Paperwork with A/c No
28th - Received Chequebook and Completed switch online
02nd - Recieved Text saying DD's have been requested from old bank and setup internet banking over phone0 -

I'm in virtually the same position as you, pqrdef... except I filled in the online form almost two weeks ago. Hope we all hear something soon!0 -
my card arrived today, no pin or card reader yet thoughDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

It might be worth reading my post for Internet banking at Smile/Co-Op added tonight (posted under Smile Bank - Security). Seems that they are comfortable with their advisors knowing your online banking security details when you set up/maintain your account.0

They might be, but I'm not - having had an account taken over a few years back by a corrupt member of an online bank's staff.0
