  • Thanks for the heads up on this one everyone :)

The process has been reasonably good for me so far.

Applied online on the 20th, received a welcome letter on the 26th, after which I went online and filled out the switching form. This followed with a cheque book in the post on the 28th and a text on Sunday morning(!) informing me that they have contacted my nominated account to get the direct debit info.

Not signed up for the internet banking yet, but it looks a little minimalist from the demo...certainly not going to persuade me to make it my main account over Halifax.

Really? Of all my current account providers over the last few years, the only one I remember operating as you say was HSBC (and so possibly FD(?), who I also had an account with but had no DDs set up).

I recently cancelled a Direct Debit that was set up on my Halifax current account (without my authority), before any money had been taken.

Somehow, T-Mobile had managed to mis-hear the words "I would like to renew my Loyalty Discount" as "I would like to take out insurance for a valueless 10-year-old phone that I have not used for at least 8 years, and probably doesn't work anyway".

Still, easy mistake to make I suppose.

Following my appt in-branch on Saturday to switch, I received a text just before 8am this morning saying "Just to let you know I've now requested a list of your Direct Debits and standing orders from <name of my other bank>. The Co-operative Bank Switching Team".

I had a call from my current bank today asking why I was leaving and was it due to a financial incentive!

I was able to tell them I wasn't unhappy with their service and it was an account that I no longer needed to use, and still have another account with them. That satisfied them and they said it should be dealt with in 48 hours. I wonder how worried they are about losing customers.

I have done a small transfer into the account, but it is not going by faster payments so has not yet arrived.

Interesting! I take it you opted to have the account closed after switching then? I'm leaving mine open, just in case I need it for something later.

Yes, I did decide to close it - though they asked me to clarify that today.

I thought to close the account you had to send in the form that co-op send to you - they can't close it for you?

I second that... Co-op bank is a great bank and the customer service is great. I know a few people on here have slagged off the online banking etc... but all I'll say is that it's the systems behind the scenes that are really important, not what the internet banking looks like. Also Co-op are investing heavily in their IT systems so things will soon improve even further.I work for a much larger bank, but yet choose to hold my main account with the Co-operative bank... make of that what you will!
