*bounds in, wagging tail*
Did someone shout on me???
After having two really sh!tty days at work, I've been coming home and just collapsing on the couch
Been told that my Higher Paid Duties will no longer be continuing as there is no money in budget to pay me. Who'd be a public sector worker????? Anyway, had one of my infamous strops and explained, no pay, no work and they could get some other mug to do all the extra stuff they expect me to do. The trouble is, there is no other mug - just me and my sense of loyalty. I can't watch while the work piles up and I can't watch while someone else tries to do it without having the first clue how to
And I ain't training them!!!!
Anyway rant over
My budget is going to plan, the plan being - that I am skint and likely to stay that way until 15th February
I have PADed to Carp 1 the last two days but it only comes to a little over £4
Never mind, it's £4 less than I owed before.
I updated my snowball since I paid F/mans off and unfortunately it made no difference. I am determined to look on the positive side though. If I stick to my snowball it estimates I'll be debt free by August 2016 - which is 15 months before I have my 50th birthday
Crikey - I'm all full of doom and gloom tonight aren't I. Not very entertaining at all - I'm sorry

Oi - geroff you mad mutt!! *sighs* *scratches Freeby between the ears* there, that got the tail wagging again. Wanna bonio?
Do you mind if I offer an opinion on the work front? (Like I'm really asking for permission here *rolls eyes*).
Work to rule and contract. You don't need to be sniffy or nasty about it, and there are plenty of other ways to help out. But you do need to stand up for yourself (no-one else will do as good a job), and for the next person who comes along in that role.
Ok, finances are tough - but beyond the basics, that's not your problem, and neither are un-manned tasks or lack of proper induction/training. Particularly if you've officially highlighted the gaps in those areas.
It's lovely that you've helped out so far, and good that they've been able to recognise at least some of your work by paying for it - however, it's not a long term solution for the business.
I'm public sector too (at least for now), and the budget holder where I worked. I had situations come up like this fairly often as gvt budgets are never static (bless 'em). I got well into the habit of assuming everyone would pull not only their own weight, but that of the next post as well...after all, I was doing at least two other jobs, so why shouldn't everyone else make the effort?
Except, it's never really like that - and one day one of my team came to me and said 'no more'. We sat and talked it through (clever lady brought a cuppa and chocolate with her....), and I realised what an idiot I'd been - accepting without challenge that we had to do more and more for less pay and people, when actually what I should have done (and eventually did) was to stand up to MY bosses and explain that they could have X and Y, but not at the same time unless they gave me more money, permission to recruit and train.
Obviously I've simplified massively, but the point is (and I've said this elsewhere on the forum, so apols for repeating), if you aren't the person who recruits, trains and dishes out the work, then while it's important you are supportive of your team, these are not your problem to resolve.
Hard as it is to stand by, in consistently covering up for the lack of proper staffing, training etc., you may actually do yourself and others a disservice, and enable others to assume everything is fine and dandy (it never ceases to amaze me just what people will ignore unless it slaps them in the face).
If you wanted to be constructive while they sort all this out, you could always offer to come up with some sort of training manual for the really important tasks (short term project with a small 'bonus' on completion perhaps?).
Anyway, lots of hugs and choccie coming your way on the virtual highway *beep, beep* Chin up chick!

Aw... Freeby... sorry to hear about work. I know it's happening all over the place but still not good. I think you deserve a pat on the back for PADing despite all, and of course it's bring your DF date ever nearer.
Here's to a better day tomorrow.Miggy

Cross posted with you Knitty but I've read yours - valuable not only because of your insider knowledge but because it's you saying it.

I used to work in the Public Sector too and I know there are some excellent people giving above and beyond.Miggy

Let me finish that chocolate, then you won't have the dilemma.

Well done for putting the foot down so decisively; DS1 has some steel-toed boots you could borrow to add oomph...
Have a great evening and as Knitty says, come back to tell us all about it!
Dragon, not being able to type much doesn't sound like good news.
Look after yourself, and I hope you're back to typing merrily in no time. Miggy
