  • Just wanted to stop by and chime in on the 'emergency account' discussion :) I put away the amount specified in my SOA each month for haircuts, emergency fund, clothing, gifts, car tax/repairs and dentist fees into a separate account. That way whenever one of these things comes up, it doesn't break my carefully crafted budget as I'm transferring every spare penny I have in my regular bank account onto credit card payments (down to my overdraft limit too as this is 'cheaper' borrowing than my expensive cards). It's worked out ok so far and I have a buffer of a hundred quid or so in case one of these non-regular payments comes up or there is some kind of house/car emergency.

I have been thinking of placing a 'cap' on it (maybe £300) which should cover any emergency car issues and the occasional other purchase and just top it up each month if needed, that way I can divert the rest onto card payments.

I don't know about anyone else but I am fed blimmin' up with this wind  It feels like it has never stopped for about a week, last night was as bad as it was last Thursday and we all got sent home. It (at least) blew itself away eventually but this time its still going strong and as if we weren't fed up enough, this time it's bringing in some lovely rain, hail, sleet and snow :(
Maybe if I get rid of all my debts I can go and live in some where warm and calm for the winter and only venture back here when the weather forecast says we are going to get a heat wave (usually in April ) **dreams of sunshine and mochitos**

Another NSD yesterday :) bringing my total to 7 for the month so far. I've tried to work it out and I think I can reach my target by the end of the month, but who knows, life just keeps getting in the way :)

Tomorrow is payday and I can begin debt busting properly, a month earlier than I expected :) I am hoping for back pay for the months I have been acting up but I'm not holding my breath!! I've been waiting for it for 5 months now and every month is a disappointment. I have put my normal wage into my spreadsheet so anything above that will be a debt busting bonus, watch out F/mans - you're about to bite the dust :)

Yes, me too, very tired after waking up way too many times during the night. Found myself watching Death in Paradise or Murder in Paradise last night and daydreaming of living in the Caribbean! It can't last much longer surely...

Fingers crossed for you on the backpay tomorrow.

Well it arrived, payday arrived :j I even had a dream about it last night - how sad am I??? :o

All good news - I got my backpay of £200+ :) I am a happy bunny.
I have made minimum payments to 3 debts (don't ask how many I've got, it will make you go ) and made a small (very small)
overpayment to F/Mans plus PADed to F/mans to take my bank account down to nice round figures :)

I should really use my extra wages to finish F/Mans altogether but I can't get out of the mind set that I might need that money for something and I like it in my bank account. I will need to think about it. I intend PADing to them at every opportunity and have worked out I can have them gone by the end of January so I shall plod on the way I have budgeted and see how it goes
It now feels like I am getting somewhere. I will do my snowball again when F/mans is finished and see if I have brought that DF date forward a little bit :)

Last day at work today until Tuesday :) I love saving up my holidays until the end of the year. I've hardly been there this month, it just makes the most stressful month of the year a little less stressful with loads of time to get stuff done.
I wonder where we will be this time next year?????

I know one thing - I'll still be here but (hopefully) a little bit richer :)

    Morning freeby,

I didn't want to read and run on such a big (pay) day for you, but just a quickie because I really should be getting ready for work.

I was mega excited about my pay day as well so I know how you feel, and so you should!! You're doing amazingly well and I hope you are very proud of yourself.

    M xx

That's fab news about yoru backpay, and payday in general...bet it's keeping you all snuggly and smiley no matter what the weather is like.

I know exactly what you mean about that mindset - it comes from knowing that not having anything in your bank account has been part of the reason you've got the debts.... why not give yourself a break from thinking about it too hard, and take a tip from a friend of mine who is insanely good with money (but in the way we want to be, rather than our current skillset! ;)). At the end of the money she throws whatever is left in her account - be it pennies or pounds - at her credit card or savings account (depending on what needs a boost at the time). That way she has the safety buffer during the month, but can still afford to make over payments and save.

I really like the idea, but it's too early for me to be allowed money sitting in my account (it burns a hole...). But you seem to be doing really well with your willpower so maybe it'll work for you?

And how cool that today is your last day.... Everyone - party at Freeby's tonight!! :rotfl:

Ooo, and I'll still be here next Christmas as well. I'm already debating doing the sealed pot challenge to put towards it!

Isn't back pay wonderful?! I got some myself a couple of months ago and am still floating on the strength of it!

Meanwhile a virtual pina colada (oh why not - one for everyone as their virtual :D) to celebrate payday and remind us of sunny times!
