you can only go back 6 years0 -
Anybody know how far back is it possible to claim? as I have statements going back 13 years.
I assume that claiming unfair bank charges applies to business as well as personel b/accounts.I am a LandLord,(under review) so there!:p0 -
I'm a newb to this - (just about to request my statements from Nat West), but as far as I know you're limited by law to only claiming for the last 6 years worth of charges, regardless of how many years' statements you have.
And yes, I've heard of people claiming for business accounts as well.I think the guy in the press recently for sending the bailiffs in against RBOS was claiming on a business account.

No i think thats incorrect.
The 6 year rule is AFAIK, the length they have to keep your data for. However, if you have 13 years worth you can still claim that far back. the issue might be that you have more than 5k, which will take you out of the small claims track, and youll probalby be best to split your claim. However, I dont know much about splitting claims, CAG will know if no one here does.
Business accounts are fine:beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -

As nickmack has mentioned. People have claimed over this time limit, but more knowledge is needed and this can be more complicated than a normal claim.
This is probably the best answer.0 -
I received a response from Barclays but they only provided charges made from Sept 2005 onwards not previous charges. I want to know why the claim period is six years before contacting them again to ask for the other four years! Always good to know what you are talking about!0

Just wondering.....do the banks have to keep records of your closed accounts for 6 years i.e from feb 2001 until now, OR the last six years of your actual banking history with them?
My bank account was closed in aug 2002 and if its the case that its YOUR last 6 year period of banking with them then would i be able to go back to aug 1996?
anyone have any knowledge or thoughts?0 -
recovering bank charges for bounced cheques returned direct debits in short selling my home to stop the bank taking more money in interest .can I do this after 7 years .The charging went on for at least 4 years prior to 2000 . thanks .0

Hi There,
I wondered how far back I can go on a closed account. I am thinking of reclaiming on a HSBC business account which closed 6 years ago. My husband was made bankrupt and after a particular complicated court case settlement was reached 18 months ago. Just when we thought we could get on with our lives HSBC suddenly came on with a 'forgotten' claim and we have been in and out of court since, they are keeping us dangling to get as much money out of this as possible.
It came to me that we could certainly put an end to all this business by re-claiming the thousands of bankcharges we incurred before the bankrupcy, most of them would have made you laugh if it hadn't been so serious. HSBC used to put charges onto their own charges, so to speak. IF we can go back that far in time, who knows what might happen.
Can anyone inform me about the time limit, so we can put them into a tight corner for once?
Thanks and good luck to everyone else!
