What is it for and how do you plan on doing that then!? I am however aiming for much the same but £100k by my 30th, should be debt free by 21st so just over 9 years at £925 a month.....easy 8-)

Hi Rictus, I am 47 this year and OH is 53 so we are now looking at retirement and see the next 10 years as our opportunity to feather our nest so to speak. We dont earn mega amounts and are both part time as we paid off our mortgage a couple of years ago so every spare penny goes in the savings.
As to how to do it...frugal living, quidco, everything 2nd hand, dont waste owt, home cooking, especially bread baking, ebaying...

We have pensions too so thats all sorted but I would like to save up a nice sum to keep us comfortable in our golden years!

Maybe we could start a 'save £100k in 10' thread next!!!
    Save £12k in 2012 no.49 £10,250/£12,000
    Save £12k in 2013 no.34 £11,800/£12,000
'How much can you save' thread = £7,050
    Total=£29,100
    Mfi3 no. 88: Balance Jan '06 = £63,000.
    Balance 23.11.09 = £nil. :)
  • Desperate Housewife, the £100K in 10 challenge sounds amazing!!!

regarding the present challenge though, just updated my sig, doing pretty well so far this month, however next two weeks are going to be a lot harder (lots of DDs to come off before OHs next pay) :o

However we've got something to look forward to - next weekend FOR THE FIRST TIME since we've had kids we'll be going away for nice romantic getaway, just the two of us, can't wait!!! :j

that sounds great! it is important to balance saving with treats now and then (thats why I dont feel tooooo guilty about having a holiday in Italy this year)

I would be up for a '£100k in 10' challenge if anyone else fancies it (after this one finishes though) but unfortunatelt not clever enough to manage the thread with all the linkies and number crunching involved...

Well done to everyone who has started their savings. I still haven't saved anything this year. :p

However, it's pay day next week and will be writing out a cheque for my saving's account for £300. Hurry up pay day!! I want to get started. :p

Desperate, that sounds like a really fav challenge, I could help you with the thread if you struggle to do the technically bits. I'm not a mega techy person but could help you where poss. I'm sure others interested in a long term challenge would be happy to help run a thread as well. :j

alionaear, wow sounds nice :) Have a brill time and don't feel guilty. We always try and have a weekend on our own without the kids every year to make sure the romance stays alive! :D We're going away for our anniversary this year to East Yorks in a country house, I can't wait

  • Sounds like a great idea, I'm looking at a overall target of 100K too, but I'm hoping to complete this before the 10 years is up. A lot will depend on National Grid's share price in 5 years time :-) along with what I manage to save in that time too.
