Just had a look at the current accounts on offer and did consider first direct at 8% but a lot of faffing with switching which even for me is too much trouble as I still have my virgin one account going even though we paid the balance off the mortgage. I like the fact I have access to £75k if I want to borrow any money cheaply (not that I would dream of it!!!)
Also looked at HSBC but still needs DD switching and I already have 2 halifax (£5 pm bonus) and 2 santander account earning 5ish% until feb so I think I'll stick at the mo as the £26 pm I get through these gets swept straight into the ISA.
Feeling a bit fed up at the mo, bad day at work yesterday, I got on everyones nerves when I got home as OH went to collect some motor oil I bagged cheap (off HUKD) and spent a fiver on a manky pizza and rubbish while he was there and it p****d me off because I am trying so hard to save up, bread making, doing ebay auction etc and it is like going backwards. He isnt normaally like this and never spends anything so I shouldnt moan...
I think its the time of year, everyone is fed up because there is no money around, bad news on the tv and radio all the time about the economy and the euro, its hard to keep on the 'up'
Sorry for moaning, I know there are a hell of a lot of people out there in a much worse predicament but heyho, I've had a little moan and feel a bit better...
I got up early and been surfing around to find inspiration for money making....no eureka moment yet!
My plans for the year are to pay a DD of £150 pm each into ISAs, keep selling bits and pieces on ebay, finish my open uni degree (last course this year) and go to Italy on holiday for a week (already booked) DD1 goes to uni in sept (results allowing) so that will be a fiscal challenge, just boning up on the deal for students and Martins info has been helpful.
Feel a right tight g*t this morning, dont normally have a crisis of confidence when it comes to saving. Note to self....must try to have more fun!
Good luck everyone, OH got paid this weekend so I am going to do the sums and see how much I can put into the challenge, meanwhile if anyone has got any 'get rich quick' schemes, keep us posted on this thread! Otherwise its back to the grindstone lol!Save £12k in 2012 no.49 £10,250/£12,000

Bit of a late starter here (only by a few days but still!) but pleeeease can i join? Im thinking of £7000.
3k of that is to pay of a loan and then start saving for a house! (Gotta start somewhere right!)
Im not sure if this is actually do able as i earn £14000 a year and i have virtually nothing to put on ebay! but im gunna give it a shot!
Hi Loulybooly
Don't worry about how much you can save....I only £18.5K gross per annum so I won't get to £12K unless a miracle happens. The fun is being part of it with everyone else and seeing everyones savings climb. Everyone is going to have good months and bad months whatever they earn. It's going to be exciting to see where we all have got to at the end of the year!!!0 -
£6.64 added today. Hopefully get the ball rolling properly on my challenge when I get my December earnings (it's delayed at the moment as I'm not able to go in and collect the cheque at the moment due to ill health).ISA savings: £25,139 Other Savings: £1750 (tied up in bond)0

starting to feel brighter after my early morning rant (sorry fellow 2012ers!) anyhoo, I've had this mad idea of saving £100k in the next 10 years! By my crafty calculations I am 7.8% of the way there already with what I already have. OH thinks I'm mad but by his own admission thought I was mad when I joined the 'mortgage free in 3 thread'....

Desperate Housewife, don't apologise for moaning. We all need to vent now and again
Dippykitty, I hope you start to feel better soon
I'm a bit fed up today as well, putting it down to hormones (soz to the lads, who really don't want to know that!) so I'm trying to ignore it best I can
On a positive note, I emailed a few companies last week re weekend work and one replied yesterday saying they were looking to hire on a part time casual basis which sounds perfect for meso I've replied sending her my CV and some more info about myself and I'm hoping to hear back from her within the next few weeks. It would help massively towards this challenge because anything I made would go straight in the savings account for our big hols next year
I put another £12 into the savings account yesterday, taking the balance upto £21.42 (sounds funny next to some other peoples) but I've not been paid yet since mid Dec so will be putting a few more bits over mid week on payday
Have a good Saturday night everyone

What is it for and how do you plan on doing that then!? I am however aiming for much the same but £100k by my 30th, should be debt free by 21st so just over 9 years at £925 a month.....easy 8-)Work in progress...Update coming July 2012.
