It's around the national average but I'd agree it is low for this type of challenge. I earn slightly more but going to give it my best shot.0 -
Put me down as number 30. Add another £5000 to the target to make it a round 1/8 of a million.0

I've been popping in to have a look at the 2011 thread for a while and just not had the motivation to get in there. Oh well lets see how 2012 goes and I'll give the full 12k a go if that's ok.
Better get planning. Good luck everyone.Save £12k in 2012 no.34 £650/£12,0000 -

well its not exactly minimum wage but its not massive and will be a challange. i'll have to save 50% of my take home to hit my target, for 12 consecutive months. i live in milton keynes,
well see, im looking forward to it. i had alot of debt which will be paid off this year, cant wait till my stress will be making sure i save enough instead of how am i guna get through the month without the bayliffs knocking!
good luck everyone0 -
The challenge is a bit daunting, but I'll give it a go.. I've always had a fairly healthy fear of debt (no C/C's and paid of student O/D), but never really bothered to save anything either, so every unforseen expense was a major drama. Started a S/O in Jan, taking a lump just after payday every month to go towards deposit in Santander First Home Saver, and I've been really surprised by how I simply change my habit accordingly.. never saw the money so after the first couple of months I didn't miss it!
This, and the need to get my hands on an enormous deposit, has led me to the challenge. OH thinks I'm mental, and it is a constant battle to try to achieve my saving goals without sounding like a boring old hermit.. Think I may be getting somewhere, though.. she set up a savings accout and SO herself last week! Have also committed to go and visit friends in Calgary next year, without realising quite how expensive flights would be in peak season, so that makes the challenge even more of a stretch. I'm on 32.5, but lose a fair chunk of that to pension contributions and student loan repayment
Moving in with OH this month, so that will cut rent costs a bit. Have been surreptitiously suggesting trips to my folks in Edinburgh and tours round museums/galleries instead of weekends away. I think it was the suggestion that we take our own sandwiches that gave it away as a tightwad ruse!

Disaffected - I can see how it might seem really daunting - £1,000 a mjonth is a lot for anyone to try and save! I think the main aim for many people here is to give it a good go, and if you fall short, then it doesn't matter! I know for me, unless I find another job asap, then it'll be almost impossible, but I'm going to try my hardest, and anythihng saved is better than nothing
I'm glad you're going to give it a go too!

Hello... After using this website to help clear ALOT of my debt... (still about £20k to go) I would like to join this challange. I very much doubt that I will reach it as half my salary goes towards my debts but it is a good thing to aim for. Plu at the end of the year I could aim to clear a good chuck off my debt and EVENTUALLY start saving for a house deposit.. (a large one based on my credit rating! lol). New year and a new push of motivation!!!!!
Please put me down for 12k! :-)9 years and counting0 -
This sounds good!
I'm hoping to be debt-free in 2012, and after that I'd love to save £12k!
Please add me to the challenge, thank you!0 -
Put me down for £12K please!
I, like many others, are trying to save for a house deposit!
So I am up for the challenge!0
