Turn it round on them.. Tell them you feel uncomfortable with their insistence of proof and you feel like they don't believe you.0

Keep in mind that lying in an attempt to get a job can actually be a criminal offence.
You are attempting to obtain a financial advantage (i.e employment) by deception.
It is rare for there to be a criminal prosecution but it can happen.0 -
To be fair, everybody 'tweaks' their cv.. some more than others! :rotfl:
You even get companies who get paid for beefing up your cv for you.
But as to how to get round this one.. not sure. Just tell them if necessary that no, you can't prove it as your passport's gone missing. You don't happen to have any friends who were travelling at around that time and who might have some 'evidence' you could borrow;)?0 -
Don't forget though, the UK is in Europe so if you didn't tell them exactly where you went, you're not completely lying seeing as you travelled to work and back0

I am guessing he did not go to work in a camper van ...0 -
Honesty is the best policy.
Tell them you had a really awful job and didn't want to put it on your CV so invented the travelling just to cover the gap. Tell them you really, really wanted a job with them and thought the little white lie wouldn't be an issue, but now you regret not being honest with them and want to come clean. Look remorseful (but not downtrodden) and keep your fingers crossed.
JMHO, of course.Love the animals: God has given them the rudiments of thought and joy untroubled. Do not trouble their joy, don't harrass them, don't deprive them of their happiness.0 -

They are now requiring a 5 year references and evidence I went travelling to cover that gap
Perhaps they're worried you were in prison rather than travelling?
They might be relieved to hear you were just hiding one rubbish job.Love the animals: God has given them the rudiments of thought and joy untroubled. Do not trouble their joy, don't harrass them, don't deprive them of their happiness.0
