Lied on C.V. now they want evidence!

Options
I started a new job last xmas but left in May this year because it wasn't for me didn't get on with my manager etc I left and went onto JSA.

Now I have a job offer but I didn't disclose this job on my C.V. I said I was
'travelling' during the duration where I was at my previous job.

They are now requiring a 5 year references and evidence I went travelling to cover that gap :(

I didn't mention it because I have had a 'job-hopping' past which has been used against me in previous interviews.

I've already said I've lost my passport but they are saying maybe I should have stamps or some evidence of my travels :(

I really want the job and they seem really nice employers but I've fed them loads of rubbish about travelling and this lie is escalating out of control, they must smell b/s :(

What should I do?

Just tell them you travelled around Europe so your passport isn't stamped.

Hmm, how can someone 'prove' they were travelling? Passports don't always get stamped (mine never has!). Just ask them specifically what kind of 'evidence' they want?

I'd expect at th eleast for you to be able to get me a bank statement with international transactions in this day and age.

    Might be stuffed, sorry.

Difficult one. If you admit you lied job offer goes. If they find out later (and they will) you'll be fired which is even harder to cover up later. Is there anyway you can claim misunderstanding and fess up? TBH I can't really see a way out.

Sounds like they're onto you allright.

They may think you were locked up for this period, have they mentioned a crb check at all?

If you come clean now they may not like the fact you're a job hopper, if you lie it could catch up with you in the future.

    Toughie really.

The biggest problem is not now the job hopping but that the OP has repeatedly lied. Job hopper is minor compared with this!

I agree, along with flight and hotel bookings, perhaps a travel insurance for a specified policy (most annual policies will not cover trips over a certain period)?

Try putting yourself in the shoes of your prospective employer:
    You have a bogus CV
    You have lied to them
    You are a self-confessed, "job-hopper"

It is just a question of time, so why not politely tell them the truth and let them weigh up anything you might have that is positive.

I said I went around europe in a campervan :( They haven't mentioned a CRB sounds like they are not going to do one I WANT THEM TO DO ONE just so they let this travelling thing go.

The feedback from the interview that was I seem a really genuine guy and they'll be happy to have me on board etc I feel absolutely terrible!

Even if i was to fess up it'll be hard to look them in the eye knowing I've fed them some bullshine :(

I refute the suggestion of a bogus C.V. I haven't made up jobs/dates or anything just left a job out and said I was travelling to cover the gap!
