Stone Soup
4 pint of water
any herb's still growing in the garden[or any you dryed]
assorted size's of stone's of the garden
any left over veg
Bung it it a pan, bring to a roiling boil, then take down to a simmer, and leave for at least an hour:rotfl:hth
Do NOT be tempted to serve leftovers to a labrador - they'd scoff the lot, stones and all, and leave you with a very non-MS vet bill.

Now, what on earth is going on here? Is it PMT time again? I go away and get a "real" life and it all kicks off.
Personally I was very disappointed to see Lionel Blair get shooed away for not being on topic!!! How much more on topic could they have been. Lionel knew "stuff" of that I am sure and would have been a valuable poster.
For me, I am now having to watch the pennies again as I have decided to become human (debatable) again and only have one job. On the plus side I will now have time to study and actually spend some time in the cottage I have spent the last two years busting my !!! to renovate
I am now off to play with my new shiny smart phone.0 -
I haven't really read through any of the argument stuff (tend to ignore or avoid it), but I don't understand any major friction between older and younger posters. To be fair, I rarely know how old ANY of the posters are, unless they mention it. I don't make a huge habit of reading the signature, which I suppose if you took the time to think about it, give a fairly good clue sometimes as to the poster's age. But I have friends that are in their 20s, 30s, 40s and above, and I'm in my 40s. I don't ever discount what advice someone offers me simply because they are younger or older. I take it on board, look at it to see if it's helpful or will work, then either use the advice or don't use it. And it's not just older people that do things OS... my 26yo friend has been showing me about making jam, chutney, applesauce, etc. She literally has jars lined up in her pantry, and I am really impressed with how self sufficient she is - allotment, chickens, canning, all of it! I certainly don't have the knowledge to do all that - nor the energy I suspect! But we're always trading information on ways to save money on different household things.
I think the important thing is not to focus on how people are different, but focus on the common goal of saving money.
And, of course, I'm in a happy mood because I met my friend for coffee at her house, and she sent me home with 3 jars of some of her homemade stuff - cherry jam, blackberry jam, and green tomato chutney. Replace the labrador with a boarded collie, and I'd swear you'v been to my house:D:rotfl:£71.93/ £180.000 -
Have a bad feeling that squeaky's reminder came straight after my post..oppsy:o. There was a request for a strawberry jam recipe amongst my off topic yakking. Jam making must be on topic??
We are just trying to keep steady at the mo,hopefully save a bit. Not likely with Christmas and a family wedding to attend in Ireland.
Our house buying quest is now a distant dream I think, just not prepared to stretch ourselves with the economy the way it.
After reading different posts on this thread, I do count my blessings for what I do have and wish all of you the best and hope things pick up for those who are having a hard time.
Greyqueen- I love my slow cooker.Bestest thing it cooks is rice pudding closely followed by pulled pork/beef brisket.Sooo yummy!0 -

I don't think we can legislate for on topic posts on a thread like this. Some people's idea of off topic will be me discussing what I'm making for tea while my idea of off topic could be people discussing their views on what happens pre and post death. I wouldn't presume to tell them they can't post though.
As Squeaky said
Over the last couple of weeks this thread has been drifting away from its main purpose and is ever more looking like a version of the Daily Thread.
[Which is "an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier! "]
I am surprised more people don't post there as that is how many people are describing this thread.
Discussion, tips and support are all fine and very welcome, honest
But the subject at hand is the overall current economic situation making things tougher, how it affects us, and what we can do to help limit its impact on our finances and our lives.
So what you are having for tea would fit in very well on the daily thread.
I also feel that mentioning that you have posters on ignore (even if it is blatently untrue) is very bad form and doesn't add to the welcoming, supportive thread we have here.
I feel that the continual digs by you and others are 'very bad form' too. I was under the impression we are advised to put people on ignore rather that get into arguments or get 'personal'.
So please don't anyone stop posting. And I am not having a go a squeaky here:A just throwing my tuppence in.
The last couple of weeks have just not been the same as the previous thread (s) there has been a lot of 'chat' but not much 'content'.0 -

Please feel free to use the ignore function that you recommend if you find my posts in "very bad form".:)
I am sorry you feel the thread is not the same although no two threads could ever be identical. Hopefully today we can get a concensus of opinion that will enable us to move forward in a way that pleases everyone.
Really can't be doing with all this on here today.
The news is indeed depressing re the economy. I really have no idea what the solution is but I have a feeling they may have to reduce interest rates still further to make people's money go further. In that case they I think the only thing for savers to do is "spend to save".0 -

As you can now seeI did not say your post was in bad form but having a dig at others was. Prerhaps it is You who should use the ignore feature more often.

Blimey -I go away for 5 days an come back to more bickering. Now stop it off the lot of you ;-)
However let me just get tuppence worth in too lol. Personally I have always hated the way that some people have claimed ownership over tougher threads and what is an isn't appropriate to post on them, right down to comments about who has an hasn't thanked certain posts. Threads evolve and I was thrilled that lots of lurkers came out when this new variant on the tough thread started and hope neither they nor any regulars/ irregular posters get put off by this latest blip.
As mortgage payer with public sector wage freezes to contend with I have no idea what is the best way forward -lower interest rates have suited us BUT fuel and food inflation leaves us no better off despite our falling housing costs...People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

I think the thread always has a lot of chat whenever it has a new one started - there's always a lot of 'hello's/ found you at last' type stuff - it still gets back on track in the end when the dust from moving has settled
It's not the same as the daily thread - I've tried that a couple of times and just couldn't get on with it
We're generally pretty good at 'self-policing' (for want of a better description) on here. Long live the 'Tougher' threads!
