Should I mention that I live alone? However they stacked up nicely on the landing (you try fitting one of them in a kitchen cupboard and they just will not go under the bed) but they do make somewhat of a talking point....
Sure they'll fit under the bed. One at each corner. You might be a little closer to the ceiling is all. And woe betide you if you use just one at a time.
Last time I was inundated with tomatoes, I made a rather good tomato tart. Plain pastry base, large tin of tomatoes, 1 onion, little salt, vinegar and sugar, reduced to a paste, and spread on then baked. Good hot or cold. You really really have to cook off the tomatoes well though, or you get a baked soggy mess.Softstuff- Officially better than 0070 -

So it should be a challenge.
No I won't, just discovered a big crack in the bottom.
LOL, maybe it's just not meant to be.
The remoska sounds good though, I bet it doesn't use the whole 650 watts all the time once it's up to temperature.
Does anyone know? I don't have one.0 -
Remoska hasnt got a thermostat, it either goes on, or it goes off. I like it cos its simple0

To everyone thinking of not posting.
In hard times the one thing that kept us British going was support for each other, solidarity and community. In this highly fragmented society the internet is one way we can all continue the old 'neighbourhood' ways even though we are miles apart.
We are united by a common purpose, to cope as best we can in the difficult financial times that lay ahead.
We all need each other and together we are stronger than individuals.
The govenor if the bank of England stated openly on TV that we face the worst economic crisis, probably EVER!
Now more than ever, we need to put our differences on one side and help and support each other.
Thankfully this forum is here for us all.

Hope the operation goes well and don't forget to rest and pace yourself as much as you can.
I feel a bit self conscious at "being a certain age"but having had children later in life don't feel too hidebound or set in my ways. I could of course be kidding myself and seem a right bossy old boot. Youngest being seventeen keeps me from being complacent .
DDs tease me about the back up of toilet rolls, soap powder, toothpaste, tins of soup, pasta, sugar, salt etc but they "will be glad of them when the mutant zombies emerge!" which is the joke in our house. DH and I just think we might as well take advantage of deals - both to save money and to cope better if it is a bad winter or one of us is not up to shopping.
I loved hearing about the dolly clothes for the little girl., the chip van venture and smiley had me crying with laughter.

If you eat the huge tin of rhubarb and the baked beans then you will need a bigger stock of toilet rolls.
Please everyone - don't be scared to post. This thread runs the gamut of emotions from the sublime to the hilarious and provides so much information, reassurance and support. Let's all band together waving our
rolling pins, sweeties and sense of humour.
In interests of fuel economy cough! a new fridge freezer, gas hob and gas oven should be fitted next week. DH thoroughly disillusioned with british gas so will be switching to probably scottish power and saving £350 a year. Have also found a good local firm to provide service etc for boiler, heating and appliances at a lot less so will be switching to them.
A new winter coat and good boots from TK Maxx are waiting in my wardrobe in case of another bad winter but I am hoping my storecupboard means I can stay home if weather is bad.

Once you have read the books - if there are any you don't want to keep, have you considered selling them on amazon or swapping them on green metropolis?

Hi all,
I'm a bit of an off/on poster at times(definately at the back of the class on that one) but always take time to read how everyone is doing.
Over the last week or so I have had tears in my eyes , smiled, laughed and growled at things people have had to go through just to survive.
I just wanted to say/repeat what many others have already said, it takes all sorts to make a community and I feel if we all stand together our little worlds may just be a bit better:o.
Thanks guys and gals, you really do make a difference xMoving towards a life that is more relaxed and kinder to the environment (embracing my inner hippy:D) .:j0 -
On topic??!! Today's headline: "Inflation hits record 5.2%" - mainly due to energy prices. I am definitely no economist, but this would say to me that we're all better off following GQ's example and investing our hard earned pennies in tinned tomatoes and suchlike.
The scariest thing to me about all this is that nobody, least of all the politicians (or their 'advisors') seem to have a clue what to do about it. It's as if this financial crisis is a wild animal: completely unpredictable, dangerous, destructive. Does anyone have the training manual?0 -
I will try tin foil, good idea Mardartha.
The Remoska is economical and brilliant chicken to die for and brisket beyond belief.
Couple that with Lakelands customer service, last Thursday a washer fell out of the handle which then started to feel a bit loose, well it was 6 years old and used at least 3 times a week. So I phoned Lakeland. Customer Service Lady said that's dreadful and arranged for a replacement to be sent out. which arrived on Saturday!
