Morning Everyone
I dont want to leave here, but I do think Squeaky's post is going to make me think twice about posting, which I personally would find sad as I only have OH and the cat to speak to most of the time, and I only get sense out of one of them.
Can we find a 'middle way' which means we can keep the lovely mix of information, support and chat that keeps so many of us going in tough times?
I am also thinking of not posting.
I feel the same way as I only have my OH to talk to all day, so I look forward to coming on here.Taking it one day at a time0 -
Morning
in the spirit of 'tougher' I am feeling rather smug with myself, this morning I cut my own hair. Many moons ago I use to do this and decided to give it another go after the last 'hairdresser' and I use the term very loosely, made a hash of it. so far its looking ok. my DH said he would give it a go but I thought, as I cut his, I will have a go at mine. Besides, am now £12 better off.
In my local town, three hairdressers have closed down, but another cs has opened up. I suppose this is a sign of the times, so yes, I tend to agree, you can tell the type of area you are in by the shops. Also, when times are good the cs have a better quality of goods in them, now they seem a bit jaded or past their best. I have a friend who is a cs manager and she has been complaining that donations are way down and the quality is poor. she wants to reduce her prices or have promotions but the powers that be will not allow this but targets are not coming down...
Reading through os threads, I realised that I have been doing the majority of os ways throughout my life and have learnt loads more ie chutney making. yep, first batch done and how easy was that???

I like the banter and chat too, it makes this such a friendly thread and I speak as someone with experience of other threads on MSE that weren't so friendly and where it was like entering a shark tank.
Long live the Tougher threads, however many incarnations they get. They give us a real sense of community in uncertain times.
I know where you are coming from on the Shark Tank!I've experienced a bit of that, not just here but somewhere else that I post, and it's one of the reasons I've been back here a lot more. There is a horrible 'thing' that happens a lot if you mention that you get Tax credits (you Damn SPONGER) or that your kids can't find a job (Work-shy ignorant Yoof) or that you are scared about the future (Well you should have paid into a Bloody Pension then - serves you right) and to be honest I don't need to hear any of that, because it's just not true or appropriate. I've also struggled a bit with the daily thread on here, as everyone seems to 'know' each other and it's all very domestic. I like the way this one wanders about a bit, because we all have a bit of input KWIM. I might not go onto a thread about prepaid funerals, but if it comes up here, then I can add my ha'pennorth for example.
I certainly think a bit of a laugh occassionally is a good thing too :rotfl:

.
...and so it begins.
Logging out now as I have loads to do. Hope to see EVERYONE posting by tonight.0 -
Mrs Chip; Kimsmum - don't even THINK of not posting on here, please. I'm a relative newcomer to this, but look in every day and enjoy the banter, humour, friendliness and helpfulness of everyone. I may not always agree, but how's that gonna happen with so many posters, everyone's entitled to their opinion and it doesn't have to be YOUR opinion. Be a boring old world if everyone was the same. I have learned so much from this thread I'd be quite lost without it now (and I only have OH to talk to most days). This thread makes me laugh, makes me cry and .... yes....educates me.
I agree entirely about Davey Cameroons meeting with energy bosses. Shop around....how patronising is that!!!? As if we don't. Grrrrr. We could have told him that for free and look at the wages this government help themselves to, just to come up with that!
Taurus: How's things?
To someone who (about 100 pages ago, I've not been well, sorry) asked about removing screws from the redundant chicken coop. Try spraying with WD40, leave a few minutes, turn screws clockwise as hard as you can (to break thread), then try unscrewing again. Sometimes works, so worth a go.
Off for a coffee now...and remember, compared to those if government, we're all hard working, honest and straightforward geniuses that live in the real world!! :TNormal people worry me.0 -
To everyone thinking of not posting.
In hard times the one thing that kept us British going was support for each other, solidarity and community. In this highly fragmented society the internet is one way we can all continue the old 'neighbourhood' ways even though we are miles apart.
We are united by a common purpose, to cope as best we can in the difficult financial times that lay ahead.
We all need each other and together we are stronger than individuals.
The govenor if the bank of England stated openly on TV that we face the worst economic crisis, probably EVER!
Now more than ever, we need to put our differences on one side and help and support each other.
Thankfully this forum is here for us all.0 -

When ever I shop around, my current supplier is always in the top two or three anyway ( I think because of where I am anyway) and changing would mean I had to clear any backlog that I owe them, which is not very helpful! There is literally NOTHING I can do to reduce my consumption that I'm not already doing. Grrrrr as you so eloquently say! :rotfl:

Same here, I can not sqeeze my energy bill any more. My usage has gone down dramatically but short of turning out the lights and hibernating for six months there is nothing more I can do.
Guess some of the occasional cinema and holiday money is going to have to go over to the fuel pile now. But at least I have that to draw on, what happens to you if you don't? Scandalous.0 -
Hello, Can I join?
I can offer 6 cans of tomatoes but as my trump card can I add that due to a complete inability to engage brain when I ordered them each one weighs in at 2.5 kg.
I'm majorly fed up with electric prices, we don't have mains gas here so I can't do duel fuel deals and the electric seems stacked against cutting down.
For instance when the last lot of costs came through the price per unit stayed the same but the daily charge went up, so unless someone can remove some days from the week my bill will go up even if I don't use a single unit. :mad:0 -
Sympathise re the electricity.
I'm with Eon and last night got a letter from them saying prices are up again. To give a sample (I'm on a key meter) they said, whereas you used to put, say £18 for x amount, that x amount now needs £22 and you get less for your £5 emergency money.
The only things I use electrically are the tv, laptop, washing machine, kettle and cooker, I use a couple of low energy bulb lamps (hate those bloody things too) and paraffin lamps elsewhere.
Apart from washing my laundry in a nearby stream, can't see what else I can cut!"Ignore the eejits...it saves your blood pressure and drives `em nuts!"0
