I remember when my children were little in the late '80s that we were told their would be lots of jobs for women in a few years time. Great I thought, when the Littlies go to school i'll have the pick of the bunch. Then came the '90s recession and no jobs to spare. I also got ill and wouldn't have worked any way but just another example of how you can't predict what is round the corner. Btw, where I lived in the late '80s lots of mums still stayed at home, so different from now when it is the exception rather than the norm.
I can remember being confidently assured (by a teacher when I was at grammar?/comprehensive? school) that we would all be on very short workweeks/long holidays by the time we got well into our "working lives". The progress of "technology" would (according to him) free us from 40 hour odd workweeks and only a few measly weeks holiday a year:rotfl::rotfl:. Well....I guess he saw the facts quite accurately - but didnt foresee that the "benefits of technology" would be taken by a few and those who got those shorter workweeks would get VERY short workweeks (ie being unemployed for instance). He honestly thought that the "benefits of technology" would be shared out equally between us all..... I wish he had been correct - but time revealed that he wasnt...:(
Looking back in hindsight - I cant believe how naive his generation - and my (younger) one were in thinking we would all benefit from what we could see happening...0 -

Smiley,
I think it's highly amusing you even know these things. Makes me wonder how much I don't know, how much I wished I knew and how much I might be better off not knowing!0 -
Re the query as to where Kittie's new thread is:
https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3541325
I think the reason peeps cant readily spot it is its on another Board on MSE.....
So - must go and have a good read of that one then...as I'm now a saver myself and duly being hit by having a lot of the money I should rightfully receive as interest on my money taken by someone or other else (havent figured out quite who - whether its the bankers/borrowers or a combination of both).
Old enough to remember the Cast Iron "law" that savers get paid "real" interest by the banks/building societies/etc because they have the use of our money and have to pay us for the privilege. 'Twas only 2007 that was the last time that applied - and, since then, so much of "our" interest has been taken before we get our hands on it that we are now finding our savings arent even receiving enough interest to keep pace with inflation - ie someone or other is taking our money in dribs and drabs.
Hence - I'm looking for ways to "keep" my money by spending it myself - to ensure that these inadequate interest rates dont take money out of my pocket and give it to whoever-else-is-taking-it - so I fully understand where Kittie is coming from on that one and sympathise.0 -

I am asking for help with a minor problem, if anyone can help please?
Both my girlies wear 60 denier black tights but one is size 16 and the other is a size 6. They both look the same in the wash. Needless to say they don't find it funny if one is trying to put on the others tights at stupid o'clock in the morning.
Is there any simple way I can mark them that will survive the wash? TIA0 -
Bluebag - just stitch a small button into the waistband of one of the girls tights.Think big thoughts but relish small pleasures0

Lovely to see lots of chat happening in here and really pleased to see folks joining in.
I've been sorting out kitchen cupboards and have found a couple of curry sauces that are use by Sept. Am sure they'll be fine. I have quorn chunks in the freezer so might do a curry cook-up and then freeze portions. I've already got a few tubs of things like Softstuff's chickpea curry in there along with some lentil shepherd's pie (poor lentil shepherd - very tasty though).
Anyone tried Tesco cheapie frozen white fish packs? I looked at them the other day but didn't buy.
We're off down south to visit my Dsis on Fri for the weekend. Am excited:D.
