I too am still in jammies. Feeling a little out of sorts, not sure why.

I often feel a little "down" at this time of year - end of summer and all, until i give myself a kick and realise that i can't feel like this for the next 6 months.

The fact that i'm supposed to be working isn't helping - loads of boring paperwork. Only me and DD here today, so we are treating ourselves to whoopsied fillet steak for tea. :T

OK maybe if i get dressed, bribe myself with a trip to the garden centre (for manure for the veg patch, lovely :p) then i might get something done.

    But maybe another coffee first.:D
:) I was tempted to go right back to bed but and now washed and dressed and about to hit Iceland for milk and butter (and maybe......ssshh.....cake.):o After all, it is Sunday and I can't be cakeless when HJ has a kitchen full of them. Shame I CBA to bake my own..........

I don't get SAD thank goodness but I do go into hibernation mode about this time of the year. I think it's natural for all of us to get a bit dozy when the nights draw in. Mother Nature's way of telling us to eat sweeties and get the knitting out.
Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Igamogam I saw the advert for that and my first thought was "a 9 tog duvet worth £49.99? Yeah right". I guess it's a coupon-collect deal?

yes it is a coupon collect deal which makes me think you end up paying nearly half of the duvet value by buying the paper unless you have vouchers and also probably p&p.

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/home/prmts/article-2048362/Free-double-duvet-reader-.html

not such a great deal - they are custom made but take upto 12 weeks for delivery  and you have to buy 35 DM to qualify.

unless you already buy DM or have vouchers or know someone who buys it so you can have voucher - will cost approx £24.50 for 35 newspapers.

Well I have one happy little 3 year old neighbour.
Made a blanket and pillow from some pretty pink fleece.
Knitted 2 dresses and a skirt.
Made two little tops out of some odd scraps of fleece.
We now have a very well dressed and warm dolly.:)
Also rang a niece to see if she had some things, she has a pram in her spare room that was bought last christmas and never been used.
So told the mum what my niece had a she is all delighted as they were only going to spend £20 pounds on the little one for xmas so now they have a brand new pram to put under the tree for her I am also going to make a pretty blanket and pillow for the pram.
So thats one little girl sorted for xmas.
Oh I had to stay for a tea party with 3 year old and dolly.
    Life feels good some days.

They admitted today to me they are struggling but they are still so up beat.
So it was nice to beable to do something for them.

Lovely that you both benefit in different ways.:)

I wish every family going through tough times had someone like you to do something to help - it must have given them a real lift.

I must look out for opportunities to do random acts of kindness, you've reminded me that they needn't cost a fortune.

  • jackieglasgow – thank you very much for the spatzle advice – sounds very yummy, so little likelihood of a parcel in the post for you I’m afraid, but will put out an early warning alert if Lidl/Aldi – can’t remember which - have another German promotion!

7 week wonder – thank you for your take on Kittie’s sourdough/breadmaker recipe, been keen to try this.

Stocktake and reorganise now finished –it’s kept me quiet. Apart from a lot of (in-date) pasta, also have a glut of technically out of date unopened dried pulses – black eye, haricot, butter beans, yellow split and marrowfat peas. Oldest best before is aug 2010, youngest is jun 2011. I’m thinking slow cooked soups to use them, liquidising if the skins have toughened – does this sound like a plan, or is there any risk, apart from flatulence.

I had a little wild moment the other day and ordered some cookery books from The Book People – all at bargain prices so not feeling too extravagant, lot of good deals there. One of them is a pressure cooker book (£2) - which I hope will make me bolder about using mine, maybe I’ll start with the pre-cooking of the pulses where needed.

Thank you for the heartwarming stories here – lots of Ahhhh moments and a good reminder that the nice people totally outclass the not so nice. Oh,and I love Simons Cat too, spot on for the moggies I’ve known and loved.

Good wishes to all, particularly Taurusgb.

Kimsmum I love you, I really do. One day your little neighbour will know where all her things came from, but for now, you're keeping the magic alive xxx

Thank you everybody else for your kind comments. The elf and I have a life that is as good as I can make it...he loves knitted toys and knows how to make cakes that aren't out of a packet. We have cats, and a garden that grows food. His childhood won't be perfect because of what has happened, but his headmaster did tell me that he's the only child who has had a parental bereavement that they haven't had behavioural problems with or haven't had to arrange counselling for. I have had excellent support from my friends and from some MSE members along the way. You know who you are :T

I have just started knitting him a jumper, which he is mightily pleased about. How much do I treasure these years before he understands words such as "reebok" :rotfl:

Tomorrow I will mainly be making my christmas cake, and toying with the idea of using some of the raspberries I have picked from the garden before they take over the freezer.

The elf bought himself some moon boots last autumn. I said his wellies were adequate and made him pay for the boots himself. Apart from having to wear his school shoes and days when it was warm enough for crocs, they have hardly left his feet. I paid for this years pair myself :o They were amazingly good value for £20 given how much he wore them....we live by the beach and the summer wasn't great :rotfl:

    Take care all of you
