It only works that way if you immediately edit a post without changing your page, Ceridwen. You also don't need to complete the'reason for edit'
Like this, I posted then clicked edit immediately.

Reet...I cannae be assed normally to complete "reason for edit" anyways - so thats not in the equation.

Not quite sure what you mean by "immediately edit a post without changing your page". Having had MSE lose some of my posts in the past in between typing them and posting them (ie whilst I proof-read them for spelling errors, etc) I now "throw" posts straight up onto the Board anyway and THEN go back and check for spelling mistakes/etc. Hence - I post and then click "edit" immediately anyways - but t'edited thingie at bottom still comes up.

The clue must lie in "changing your page" - errrmm....can I seek expansion on that one please?

EDIT: aha - it did it then without the thing at bottom - as I did subsequent proof-reading and had to knock out a repeated word....hmm....maybe they've changed the MSE set-up??? (so guessing you mean that - whilst MSE thread concerned is still on the same "screenpage" that peeps can go back later - even if others have put up posts in the meantime...)

Well I have one happy little 3 year old neighbour.
Made a blanket and pillow from some pretty pink fleece.
Knitted 2 dresses and a skirt.
Made two little tops out of some odd scraps of fleece.
We now have a very well dressed and warm dolly.:)
Also rang a niece to see if she had some things, she has a pram in her spare room that was bought last christmas and never been used.
So told the mum what my niece had a she is all delighted as they were only going to spend £20 pounds on the little one for xmas so now they have a brand new pram to put under the tree for her I am also going to make a pretty blanket and pillow for the pram.

I'll tell you something else... neither the mum or dad, or the little girl will ever forget your kindness.

My elderly friend that I mentioned the other day (who died last year) was my neighbour originally, she lived next door to us in London - she must have been about sixty when we moved in, she and her OH had no children and no close family. A few weeks after we arrived our first DD was born. Every Xmas, and every birthday she she came down with a little something for each of the kids, a card with just a couple of pound coins in that rose to a fiver as the kids got older, and two or three packets of biscuits or cakes, or at xmas a choccie multi pack, and the dog usually got a treat too. At the time the kids were small we were so broke, and I only have my mum for family, no-one else and it meant SO much to us that someone else 'bothered' with the kids. It was a small gesture too, so it didn't feel 'over the top' KWIM.

After her OH died, as she got older and more infirm, and we'd become incredibly fond of her and started to be able to do little things for her too.I guess it's part of the pay it forward thing, but when I was trying to get her into a care home, and organise everything people were amazed that we weren't family? I never ever forgot how lovely what she'd done for us those early years was, and how much it meant to my kids.

Hello all, I lost the old thread somewhere along the line so I shall try and keep an eye on this one more often.

We've just had the nod of approval from a solar panel surveyor so paperwork permitting we should have 12 panels on the roof by the end of November.....will benefit us loads as we're both home during the day, we've picked up a large oil filled radiator to back up the open fire and the hot water can be run from the emersion heater so we should be able to get away with no gas usage during daylight hours. Fingers crossed!

  • We have the 4.5 tog M&S basic duvet on our bed and it's lovely and warm and fluffy - and plenty warm enough for these October nights. I bought a supermarket 4.5 tog one for the second bedroom and can really see the difference. That one is flat and sort of "lifeless". Wouldn't want it on our bed. The difference in price was about £6 and I've learned my lesson there!
Some lovely stories on here, makes me proud to be a 'member' of this site, honestly,

    TECHNICAL QUERY:
I've often noticed its possible to edit posts later on MSE without the smallprint coming up at the end of the post saying that its been edited at such and such a time and it just looks as if thats how that particular post always was, as I've spotted various posts over recent months that have changed from the "original" later, but theres no sign they were amended.

Can anyone spell out to techno-thickie moi how to do so too please?

Why would you want to do that?

  • There was a fair few of you looking at the Ugg winter boots, I have just happened upon these - at £15 they may be a good alterative, I haven't purchased them, but we got our winter boots from Decathlon last years, and they were fab quality for the price.

Wow!! Thanks for this these are exactly what I've been looking for.

  • The editing of posts without an edit showing is only possible (I think) if you edit and save within about a minute of the original post. That would make sense as it shouldn't be for more than a typo or to add or delete a couple of words. I know I've posted before and as I've hit submit I've remembered I wanted to say "sorry" "hugs" or similar to someone and provided I go straight to edit, it doesn't show as an edit. Anything longer than that wouldn't be fair to subsequent posters who may have responded to the original post's content.

    Just done it!

Me too JG - but the online shop works in a weird way? I put my postcode in (west wales) and the site said that the shop at Surrey Quays wold send them - then on checking, the boots were not available??? They had lovely purple ones too .

  • Hi Becky,
    Pea and mint soup
3 pints of water, with 3 veggie stock cubes. 2 Onions, chopped. 8 oz green split peas. Handful of dried mint. Cook it all together - takes about an hour, and don't worry that it starts out looking really watery - it thickens up as it goes.
I whizz mine to make it smooth, just prior to serving.
Its' a lovely soup, and one of those where the ingredients are always to hand
