Whe we bought our F&C van there was all manner of carp in the cab (honesly it was a mess - men!). Anywhoo, in all the carp were two tins of processed peas (obviously purchased by accident when buying tinned mushy peas!). Now, we don't eat those as a rule (although my favorite treat as a kid was a slice of white bread soaked in processed pea juice :p) so had to find a use for them. I made my usual soup base - chopped onion sauteed in butter -, added the two tins of peas, some chicken stock and some chopped pre-cooked smoked bacon. Simmered for a few mins then whizzed with a stick blender it was like old stylee pea and ham soup - yummy!

I have a theory (from my various reading) FWIW that people often "know" within the few days just "before"....and will admit to reading a bit of stuff on describing the "physical process" (eg going ICY cold from the feet up). Though I'm not the most "psychic" of people - I have noticed the odd "unusual" thing before - so think I would probably notice my "greeters" hanging around waiting to take me with them.

My dad certainly did not know - he was expecting a visit form my aunt, who couldn't get in - hence the police breaking in and discovering his body. There is NO way, whatsoever, that he would have wanted his big sister to have that happen to her

Greent I am so sorry your family had to deal with that added distress on top of the loss of your father. :(

Must just wish Taurus good luck for tommorrow. xxx

May have to log out soon as there are posts elsehwere on the forum that are making me want to chew cushions in an effort to stop replying. :o A very wise MSEer taught me that phrase and it sums it up so well. :rotfl:

, it meant his carefully chosen clothes(by us) were no use to the FD and the realisation on my husband and mil and his sisters faces when we discussed it with the FD will never leave me.

I'd forgotten that - we had chosen clothes for him, and I had the task of talking to the FD about it - he admitted that the only thing they could do would be to lay them over the shrouded body, as the body wasn't in a fit enough state to dress. That really hit me hard - I did wonder why he (the FD) couldn't just have accepted the clothes and done that without letting me know the details.... I didn't share that with anyone family wise other than my husband, as I didn't feel that others needed to know that.
Greent, your post brought me to tears there, I do send you all the love in the world, having been in a similar situation. FIL didnt have any cats, but we went through a similar predicament. Much love to you and your sister. X

Thanks for that, jackie - I hadn't read your original post when I posted about my dad (I'm still several pages behind - busy weekend!) It's been a long-drawn out affair because of the delay in discovery - as you can most definitely appreciate. 6 weeks between death and the cremation is a long time to be in a sort-of limbo...!

This mornings rain was very short lasting so after getting the washing on the line the OH and I went down to the lottie. Brought home a butternut squash, a turks turban, onions, pak choi, spuds and lettuce. The weather has been great and it has been lovely and sunny. I forked over a large section of one of the big raised beds and worked up a sweat and a healthy appetite :p.

Have sat this evening with OH and peeled a huge amount of onions kindly donated to us by mum and dad who bought a large net of them but only wanted half. They are now soaking in brine before being pickled tomorrow. We also now have a handy net bag for storing veg in.

Whilst I did an extra shift yesterday OH took DD1 to look at a uni, both were impressed with it. I am dreading her going next year, one because I will miss her and two because of the cost.

Poor DD2 is rugged up on the sofa full of cold with what sounds like painful sinuses glad I stocked up the medicine cabinet over the last two weeks ready for winter.

OH is making tea and following that I will start on the ironing :( which will be so much easier to iron because it has been on the line :).

You might remember on the old site I posted about my friends 41/2 year battle against breast cancer. Unfortunately she lost this fight on thursday and died peacefully at home in her own bed with her family around her. Have lit a candle every night for her and her family, she will be greatly missed. I have to say this has made me put my outlook on my life at the moment back on track as you never know how long you have left and I think that I have been feeling a little sorry for myself lately.

Hope you all had a good weekend

    Mrs VP

Sorry forgot to say good luck to taurusgb for tomorrow.

Kimsmum what you did for that little girl was great. Thankyou.
I am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order :D.
  • I've been lurking on the old thread for few months but never posted. As this is a new one (& I've finally caught up) I thought I would join in.

Been quite OS this weekend. I had approx 6 very ripe Bananas in the fruit bowl yesterday but now have 10 banana muffins and 1 banana bread to munch on. I also bought some whoopsied leeks which mixed with the chickn stock in the freezer, a couple of clery stalks and a couple of spongey potatoes was transformed into scrummy soup which has been frozen into portions for my lunches this week.

DH is away at work (hes a wagon driver) so it was just me & DS for tea. Felt like being lazy after all my cooking yesterday so we had frozen leftover lasagne. As Garfield would say MMMmmmmmm Lasagne!!!

Re the "found some days after" scenario - well - if anyone has any practical suggestions on dealing with that it would be useful...as I cant think of any way round this in 21st Century Britain. Victorian times - with Victorian customs - then..yep...but 21st Century Britain....I cant think of one...and fully agree its bad for anyone to go into a situation like that.

However - I'm mindful that this sorta talk is disturbing at least one thread member - so I'd rather not get involved any further in that...

Mardatha - if I remember rightly you are getting your boiler sorted this week (or soon I hope!). Let's have an online party to celebrate - I'll bring the kale cookies! ;) I'm about to watch a nw Hugh FW programme on Veg - might have some ideas for you.

    Frugalista
    - don't worry, I don't think Ceridwen has any sinister intentions! The impression I got was that she's just trying to understand the workings of the site - nothing to get concerned about. :) Sorry, I've no ideas for your offal - I was forced to eat heart once as a child and it's not an experience I've ever cared to repeat!

Greent - I'm so sorry for what you and your sister have gone through. It's hard enough losing your Dad but having to cope with those difficult circumstances must have been dreadful. Sending you love and hugs. x

Taurus - good luck from me too. x

Doh, I know there other folks I'd meant to reply to and now I forget what I wanted to say. :(

Hope everyone has had a nice Sunday and is doing ok - sending hugs to anyone who'd like one. I saw the forecast and it's set to get a lot colder this coming week so hope you all have your fleece blankets on standby!
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

Can't you just leave instructions on your beliefs and carry it in your wallet as well in case of accident that your body is to be undisturbed for 3 days? As others have said there is every chancethat you will die in hospital or in an accident but at the very least there will be other people around you. I'd say there would be all sorts of public health implications of that though so maybe check it out with a pathologist beforehand. Good luck with it. :)

I'm very sorry for your loss Mrs Veg Plot.
