where the best place is for wool. there is an I don't have much money to spare so obviously looking for cheapish! put an ad on freecycle but no response yet.

are you on netmums.com? if not register and go to local to you board, nearly new and post an ad on the wanted section. Please tell them you don't have much money, some may offer for free, some for a very good cheap price.

also check out charity shops and if you have any fundraisers for schools or local shows on. Ours always has a big box of donated wool each year, only 20p a skein, and lovely colours too.
  • Brill thanks aesop x not sure if i'm already registered with them or not, but will certainly do that in the morning!! Ginnyknit, that sounds fab, thankyou!

looks like I'm not the only one who stays up late then! I must get off mse and get my bottom up to bed, i want to get the bread dough done and rising before I go to aldi to get some soup veg. the super6 is fab this time. which also reminds me, must get some soup mix soaking before i do hit the hay. trying to cut right back on the food shopping, so homemade soups and bread for me and the girlies this week, must find a shop near aldi that sells lentils though. went to make garlic and lentil soup last night and had no lentils in!!! pretty sure there's somewhere in Old Trafford that will have them cheap, iirc there are a few asian grocers nearby.

    Good morning everyone

Just caught up. My, this thread moves fast. I've been waking at 4.30-5 ish each morning and this morning I've only just managed to catch up after about an hour.

Painted the kitchen yesterday, while OH worked on re-modelling the bedroom. The kitchen looks a lot better, but I've no idea how I'm going to fit everything in there. We moved everything from the cupboards into the dining room while we 're-modelled' the kitchen (ripped some wall units out, re-plastered and painted) and now I have to get it all back in. OH says I need to cut down on my storecupboard supplies

Today we will have to stop decorating and do some gardening. The onion sets and garlic I ordered arrived this week. I did have some beds dug and prepared and then last weekend we went and planted out the spring cabbage, kale and cauliflower plants we'd grown. We are new to vegetable gardening so most of the time we are rapidly digging up new beds in the lawn to take plants that have been ready before we are :o

Our upright freezer is starting to behave erratically - leaking puddles of water over the floor. Looked on line at the prices of new freezers and had a  moment. Having spent up on decorating materials, timber, electrical fittings etc, there isn't much left in the piggy bank, so we are going to live off the storecupboard stock and veggies from the garden and cut back on the food spending. Hopefully I'll be able to scrape some money out of the food budget to contribute towards a new freezer. The first thing will be to work our way through the freezer contents before the old one expires. I read in a Bob Flowerdrew book that he keeps old fridges and freezers for storing garden produce over winter - apples, root veg etc. (keeps the mice out) so it may have a use yet (though I'm not sure OH will be convinced).
Enjoying an MSE OS life :D

    7 Week Wonder -

Glad the bread recipe is going well. I reckon Kittie's view on this would amount to "Glad you like the recipe and it would be no problem if you had posted it unamended". Kittie likes to think her suggestions have been helpful.

I was interested to hear the "Farewell Tales" that came up - just confirms all those others I've read over the years as to what happens when..

Bob Flowerdew does indeed say one can use an old freezer for food storage. He says that it needs to be put in a shaded shed and that some holes need to be made in the seal to allow for some airflow (but not big enough that mice can get through them). (Just checked with his "Grow your Own, Eat Your Own" book from my shelves).
  • Morning folks!
Another serial lurker, ocassional poster, popping in to say hi. I caught up last night but was in recovery with a glass of wine. Not recovery from catching up but recovery from watching The Wall on DVD with DH. He couldn't understand why I was so miserable (men!). I had forgotten how sad the film is in the 20 odd years since I last saw it.

On a more positive note, we had a really yummy savoury bread and butter pudding last night, made with some of Mr S basics bacon offcuts and a bit of cheese. It was much easier to make than my imagination thought it would be and served 4 generously.

Have been given a slow cooker but it doesn't have an instruction book,so I don't know if it needs pre-heating.I'm sure someone in the past, sorry can't remember who, posted a website that had on-line manuals.Any help would be great!!!

Off to paint the hall now - OH has managed to mark the walls with his guitar case, just before a property inspection - grrrrrrr.

Had a fit of the giggles at the wardrobe, mrs Cranky - I'd be exactly the same :D
Re your grandad ShellyCrow, I think that's beautiful, and I believe that's how it happens. I'm a Spiritualist and dont see death as quite such a terrible sad thing.

yes thanks - they are now on grass rather than sludge and look alot happier, their old patch was a complete mud bath. Hopefully the combination of grass and (a little bit of) sun will encourage them to start laying again. Otherwise I'll try the cat food and cod liver oil.

Just trying to decide what cake/biscuits I want to bake today.

Oh I keep meaning to ask, has anyone got an idiot-proof recipe for a veggie thai green curry?
