Mrs Chip I reccommend Nigella's butterscotch layer cake. It's my favourite cake ever, so I daren't make it as I scoff the lot. It's one of those cakes that is incredibly rich, but you find yourself reaching for another slice. It's in the How to be a Domestic Goddess book.
OMG This sounds so MOI. Wonder if the library has the book? :j:j:j0 -

Very quiet here ... OH has got two night shifts booked, sadly miles away, but it's something. The cats and I are looking at each other, and I am wondering how to make the best use of the "whoopsies" I picked up this evening: slightly manky mushrooms (19p), some broccoli (10p), LOTS of satsumas (13p) all from Mr T, and two absolutely yummy M & S puds (50p each). A friend tipped me off that our local M & S now puts everything on its sell by date down to 50p at 5 p.m., so I had to go and check. So pleased I did! Between using a SC, meal planning, buying stuff only when on offer, using coupons plus the odd Mr T womble which yields a price check voucher, I have managed to reduce our monthly food bill radically. Have lots in the store cupboard (in case we get even more broke, or snowed in. Or both.), and the freezer, and plan to just nip to Aldi or Lidl for milk, fruit and veg, plus hunt for whoopsies when I am in the right place at the right time. Good luck to everyone feeling the pinch - we will fight on, together .... (all together now for some sort of rousing chorus ...)0

LOL One of my 'online' American mates hubbie calles Nigella soft food !!!!!! anyway!
I'm not sure what's on my top shelf...have to confess that the top two shelves have double layers of books - all cookbooks
Perhaps an nice OS activity would be to get them down and have a look occassionally. I had a nice looking book in my hand in the works the other day - it was £6.99 reduced from £25 IIRC some blokes book, he was a food writer for one of the papers? Name gone. It was weird I was sure I'd remember it. But I looked at it and said to myself is there REALLY going to be anything in here I don't have a recipe for already?
Maybe if they reduce it a bit more?
