WMf chocolate is necessary for women as we have hormones - it calls to you from fridges and drawers. My OH understands the importance of it as he has written chocolate spread on my shopping list :rotfl: Obviously it calms down my tendency to be a menopausal witch so he prescribes it once a day
Suzid congrats on your sons promotion!
Lots more people to say hello to and commiserate or congratulate but my post it note is full and I can't find any more!
Went to Ikea and was very good, got new frying pan which I will not dip in cold water and bend out of shape, a red fleece blanket to chop up for xmas stuff, a chopping board and some rather pretty gift tags to make cards with. Didnt get Dd's drying rack sadly so am going to look online and hopefully get on shipped in.
loving the spirit of all the newbies and lurkers that have appeared - great to meet you all.Clearing the junk to travel light

Thanks for replying Pink, Ceriden and Greyqueen. Guess the sensible thing to do is let the savings stay the level they are and put all future savings towards holidays. Its worrying as interest rates are not keeping up with inflation and if the banks get into trouble or the £ is devalued anything saved won't be worth as much as it is now so it does seem a bit of a waste of time. Funeral costs are now in the region of 6-7k so that has to be factored in. BTW we are very late 60's with occupational as well as state pensions. We downsized to a small modern house as much because we wanted no maintenance problems as needing less space. I have to watch the pennies to be able to save what I do and my mantra has always been ' you can only spend it once'. I remind myself of it everytime I go shopping.Mortgage and Debt free but need to increase savings pot. :think:0

Serial lurker/occassional de-lurker here popping in to say Hi on the sparkly new thread
Blimey it's only just over 24 hours old & 9 pages of wonderful chatter already, it's taken me ages to catch up!!! Hubby thinks I'm mad sniggering away at some of the things that go on :rotfl:0 -
Mrs Chip...the best cake I ever made (and am often asked to make) is Mary Berrys chocolate mousse cake! It is a heart attack on a plate but if you like choccie then this is the baby for you!!!
Nigella's domestic goddess has one of these as well - sublime
suzid Congratulations to your son - how proud you must be.
I think tomorrow's tea will be random mincey things from the freezer all put in a pot and turned into taco filling. As someone above said - sometimes you do have to eat things and not just cook and freeze them. OH and DS are away for the weekend doing boy stuff so DD and I are doing girl stuff - shopping in our favourite Solihull (yep we are going posh) and lunch at Wagamamas. Lovely treat. She only really needs school trousers but she said "can we do our normal shopping where you say that you're not buying me anything but then i end up getting stuff!" :rotfl:Hmm I think i'd better brush up on my firm refusal skills. Actually she does need a couple of bits but :shhh: don't tell her.
Anyway I need :coffee: as DS has just come back from trying out for a new footie team and i didn't take a coat and was standing for an hour watching - i'm chuffin freezin.I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
I was momentarily tempted by the idea of making the butterscotch layer cake until I peeked at the nutritional info....840kcal per serving....that's 2 meals worth of cals in 1 serving...now I LOVE a nice bit of cake as much as the next person but that is just mental  think I may have to skip it as my (& hubbys) waistline can do without that kind of calorie damage:rotfl:
Will have to find an alternative "something" naughty to bake at the w/end....now where are my baking books0 -
