    Another lurker de-lurking. Hello everyone.

To be honest, I felt intimidated by the old thread - it was just too daunting to try to read something that long and going back over 5 years. Thank you for starting a new one.

  • Dear me, you lot are [STRIKE]incorooigable[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]incorrigable[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]incorr[/STRIKE] never mind! I should have been in bed ages ago, but instead I have read every post. tomorrows uniforms aren't ironed, nor are the packed lunches made. DD1 who snuck downstairs for a cuddle is curled up asleep next to me instead of being returned to bed and I had supanoodles for tea:eek:
AND I'm annoyed at DH because while I was up at the childrens hospital visiting my little prem nephew earlier, he was supposed to be making the girls tea...crisps, donuts and sweets:mad:
oh well/ it's friday tomorrow:T hoorah!! please don't type so fast, or nothing will ever get done in my house. xxxxxxx

Should really be sleeping but I've got it in my head that I want to make rum and raisin fudge tomorrow and I've been hunting out the recipe and planning tomorrows dinner, think I'm maybe hungry! Hope everyone is well.x

Just popping in to say hi to the new thread! I do try to keep up but its near impossible! Someone mentioned frozen fish fillets earlier on from one of the supermarkets, I bought some from aldi that were really nice, there's 4 in a pack but it was more like 3 and a half but they were a big 3, if that makes sense? I've had a long day. I just thought I would post as I didn't see a reply, I did skim a bit.

On a seperate note, do any OSers have old cookbooks, I have recently been given one from the 40s, not tried anything, yet, I've just been reading through, it recommends the modern haybox, made from asbestos! OH has told me he is not eating anything from the book

I read today that Ruth, Alex and Peter of Edwardian/Victorian Farm are filming another series set in the 1940's. Its due for broadcast mid 2012; I'm looking forward to this, really enjoyed the other series they did.

I go to bed, wake up, and it looks like there's been a houseparty in this thread and I wasn't invited! :rotfl: With all you new folks here I'll have to make an extra virtual cake for afternoon tea.

I was running around like my backside was on fire yesterday. Made toppers for my Christmas cakes, cupcake toppers, picks, felt christmas decorations and I'm halfway through my mincemeat, just got to pop it in the oven.

Have the in-laws coming for tea tonight, so it's homemade sushi night. It's an incredibly economical meal, and looks so posh!

Kimsmum - good luck with the budget, it's tight but you can do it. If you need any suggestions for using up any odd things, I'm sure we can all put our thinking caps on. There's no-one who'll look down on anyone here, doesn't matter how much money you have, what kind of silly mistake you made that day, whether you fall off the OS bandwagon or do something quite odd to save money, we've all done it too at one time or another.

Funeral costs are now in the region of 6-7k so that has to be factored in.

I appreciate this might not be for everyone, but a while back hubby and I looked into donating our bodies for medical research. After death you understand :p. We were looking for scientific reasons, but as a moneysaving incidental, you avoid funeral costs. When they're finished with your remains, they cremate at their cost and each year there's a memorial service held for donors. Struck me as a lovely thing to do. Presently we live too far away from the nearest city to offer this, so we've only signed up for donating our brains (you still have to arrange a funeral for the rest then), but should we ever move closer we'll be up for it.

I found it a comfort to think that there was something I could do to help progress medical science. And they take anyone, regardless of age, medical conditions or how you die. You can still combine this with organ donation too. Worth contacting your nearest university if you're interested.

Anyhoo, better get on with some actual work today!

I'm sure they'd look at my brain and think weird free thinker, no thanks :D I've never conformed, not about to start, but I hope I've always been kindly and compassionate. Anyone's welcome to all/any of my bodyparts when I'm gone, but I have the feeling the overwhelming response will be "no thanks" :rotfl:

Ches, are funeral expenses really that high :eek: Both DH and me took out plans when my Dad died. If those figures are accurate, then wow, we've got a golden plan :D So glad my boys won't be lumbered :T:T

What the hell am I doing up at this daft hour. A1 had another 'incident' at 2ish, then I lay coughing and realised what was causing the 'incidents' and couldn't get back to sleep . I wish Mr A did 24hr shopping here, as I could have done it all before DH realised I'd gone. So in a few hours time, if I can keep my eyelids open, I'll buy some of A1's food from the vets when I pick up his meds. He's never had a problem with the current flavour in the past, so I's my own fault for giving him a change, all be it gradually :o. I've got to order 60Kg of the stuff today but can't wait that long for the delivery _pale_ .

I'm sure many on here have some very old cookbooks Lexxi (and some of their owners are of similar vintage :whistle:, I can talk:D) The book I've used for years and is in constant use was my Grandmothers, called 'The Art of Home Cooking' by Stork Margarine Cookery Service, published 1954. Very basic with none of the new fangled stuff like garlic etc :rotfl:. I did have my mothers school cookery text book which I can't for the life of me find and I can't believe I was daft enough to get rid of.

Now giving myself a stern talking to "get to bed woman and GO TO SLEEP".

See you tomorrow - urm today!

EDIT And a big welcome to even more delurkers, great to meet you all.
