Dad got a trojan on his pc which I have now removed but the trojan removed the components of his AVG so I uninstalled the rest of it. I attempted to reinstall AVG but it isn't working. I keep getting this message,

"Severity: Error
Error Code: 0xC0070643
Error message: General internal error.
Additional message: MSI Engine: Failed to install the product.
@AVGMSI_Error1719
The Windows Installer Service could not be accesses. This can occur if you are running Windows in safe mode, or if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance. (0xC0070687)
Context: Installation of AVG Core, MSI action failed"

Can anyone tell me how I can get AVG back on to the pc or what can I do?

Are you in safe mode? If not, check the windows installer service is running by running services.msc

Might be better off with avast free, and also do a malwarebytes scan if you haven't already

The Windows Installer service is set at "Manual", hope that makes sense to you.
  • hit F8 when it is booting up from cold and it will bring up the option to start in safe mode.

Google avast and it will let you down load it from there.

Malwarebytes the same. Download that and update it first before you scan it.

Usually in safe mode, the icons are larger as the graphics driver has not loaded, and it should have said it was in safe mode

For malwarebytes, click download latest version on the right

    For avast, same thing here

Try Revo Uninstaller Free if you haven't got it, scroll down for the free 1.93 version

    http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html

Install it and run it to look for anything left over from AVG

I downloaded and updated Malware successfully and I clicked the button to do a full system scan. I looked away from the computer for about 10 seconds and the Malware screen was gone. I clicked on the Malware icon on the desktop and I got the following message,

    C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes’ Anti Malware\mbam.exe
Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.

What have I done wrong now?

Restart the PC and start tapping the F8 key until you get options, choose safe mode with networking, try malwarebytes
