Hi all
Just a quick foray before I stop for lunch. DLB - what a nightmare but it sounds as though the poor inspector got it in the neck from them. How dare they call you "the council people". To my mind, never mind CBB, that is discrimination towards you and your DH.
Hugs and kisses to all who need them.

Angelselondon wrote:Did anyone see the follow up from last year on BBC2 last night.
I was so addicted to this programme last year, it was how I ended up on MSE after googling.
I can't wait to see the family of surfers who were very OS, does anyone remember them the husband made those stoves.
Anyway what a wonderful programme it was, the family was also OS and I had nothing but admiration for them. So inspiring.
They were shown in the first episode last week - on paper, they did it (with Rene buying a stove off them to make up the last £1500!!!) - think the bloke from yesterdays prog wouldve done it if he hadnt had such a bad attitude to it all - wonder why he wanted to be on the prog if he wasnt prepared to make an effort with it!!!!0 -
thriftlady wrote:Anniebooklover re British veal, this article might be of interest

Thanks for that thriftlady - and your earlier post too. I will look at the article when I get home. Tesco's website said their veal is from Holland and I believe Holland is one of the main "culprits", if that this the right word, of the awful caged rearing of calves. Tesco's supply may be humanely-reared but I would have thought the website would have mentioned it somewhere. Unfortunately I don't have a Waitrose near me but I may check a couple of the smaller regional supermarkets to see if they stock it. I'll let you know how successful I am. Thanks again.
angelselondon the surfing family was shown last week. Techinically they did raise enough money to pay off their mortgage but I don't think it actually took into account tax, national insurance, etc.

thriftmonster wrote:Morning all,
BUT this afternoon is a big day in the Thriftmonster house as we are collecting dh early and all going into town to pay off the mortgage:T :T So I have to go to the butcher for 4 steaks to celebrate and peel some spuds for HM chips. Might treat us all to onion rings as well. Funny thing after all this time saving money - we haven't the heart to go and splurge on a meal out - it's still OS all the way (well the steak won't be but it'll be cheaper than even a takeaway:D
Enjoy your day and think of us in the Nationwide this afternoon - couldn't have done it this quickly without all of you here:beer:
Massive congrats thriftmonster. Must be a wonderful feeling.

I started my to-do list yesterday - so thats something!
I got my AA renewal in they want £160 for me and DH! - so I got a quote from Marksandspencer for car insurance which is what i already pay with esure BUT you get free RAC breakdown cover! so I might take that up - thats if i can cancel esure and get some money back otherwise I wont - but in the meantime RAC said it would only cost £99 for us both, so I think a call to the AA is in order to see what they can offer!

Hello again everyone! :hello:
catowen : (((((HUGS)))))
Been very busy - in spite of having jury service cancelled and no work in sight, I called the companies I work for and got a few bookings, so I won't lose a lot of money.
I got my first £10 on Pigsback so have ordered a John Lewis voucher :j How cool is that: £10 just for clicking around while I'm on the forum anyway!
Yesterday it was very windy here too, particularly as I live at the top of a hill, but there was no damage in my neighbourhood except some estate agents signs blown away.
Oh, and one of my companies are having a meeting in St Albans next week, so they are putting me up at a nice hotel...:D
Have a great day everyone! :jBe careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0 -
Thriftmonster well done I'm seriously impressed. How did you do it ? Do you both work all hours God sends or are you very frugal or both? Share your secrets of sucess0
