Just to give you guys an update, and an end to the story really.
Took the car back last week, got the full amount I paid for it.
Pretty happy that its all been dealt with quickly. Thanks for everyone's advice.0 -

As for insurers charging more for cat c/d cars its wrong.. If they dont ask then they dont care.
ive insured a cat c pug 106 before and they didnt ask, it was bumped and written off again about 2 weeks after i bought it.. they didnt question the cat c marker.. but as it was badly damaged so was cat b'd and was still paid out more than i paid from the TP insurer.
iirc theres only 1 insurer that i know of that wont cover write off.. (swift cover i do believe) as its in the small print..Sealed pot challenger # 10
