BUT any life-changing event makes you question 'what is it all for?' and one thing that is for sure is it's not to spend it with a load of debt hanging like a millstone around my neck, dragging me down.

    Right, I am back.

Thank you so much to everyone who has read and to everyone has posted when I was being a bit maudlin. Things were really feeling a bit bleak for a few days there.

But it is all good news on the sister front, she is on a normal ward as of Friday and should be home in a few days. Can't tell you how happy I am. The whole family has had its ups and downs but in the last few years we have all grown incredibly close and perhaps I hadn't realised quite how much I need them all in my life until the last couple of weeks.

I feel rather like I have come out of a fog into the bright sunshine.

So I am back, full of vigour and determination.

Ok so spends have been been quite high in the last couple of weeks while I have lost focus, but nonetheless, they are still lower than they would have been last year and at least I can account for it.

    Spends

Bought the curtains I have been hankering after for 6 months and put them up last weekend. They look lush. I did make a bit of a boob buying an a pair for the door that turned out to be too narrow but was unable to return them due to pulling the tape. Never mind, they will go in the loft for another window in the future. So that was £36 I could have saved. Even with the extra curtains, I still got the bay window and the front done, plus tie backs and a cushion for £160, so pretty pleased with that. I  The Range

Went out for girly lunch yesterday, I think the first time I have been out this year. Spent £30, so could have been worse. Had a lovely time.

Bought a lovely crystal decanter from the car boot for £4.50. Going to use it for orange squash. :rotfl:

Have lost the plot with the food shopping. Bought the Sainsburys take-away for £10 on Friday. Bought pizzas for tea for last night. All naughtiness, in every way.:o

Spent £36 on 3 new tops and a bag. Once again, could have done without them, but at least it was reasonably sensible spends.

Finally got the energy monitor posted off, am glad to have that job ticked off, I didn't like the guilty feeling everytime I looked at it in the cupboard.

Only managed one lift to work this week, circumstances, really. Though I did give a lift one day too. Both M and Q are not at work next week so no lifts then either.

    So summary
    • Sainsburys - alcohol £15.50, toiletries and cleaning £2.04, Clothes £36, food £39
    • Boots, wipes and moisturiser £11
    • Car boot decanter, glasses, toothpaste £7.20
    • Lunch with wine £30
    • Money for children to spend at car boot £14
    • Coop pizzas £10.50
    • Posting monitor to DFW321 £4.20
Actually it's not that bad when you look at it that way.

Still making minimum-ish payments to the credit cards becuase we still have the overdraft to get rid off. When, oh when will it be gone?

I think it's going to be a long and slow month, but am full of fight, I AM going to nail this.

  • Aw i'm so sorry i missed your update about your sister. My grandma had septecimia (sorry can't spell) before she died, and it was awful, she had lots of other things wrong too though...but i remember spending ages googling what it was :( I'm so pleased she is in the normal ward again :) bless you you must have been so worried, i would write a line below those few spends and mentally start again on the frugal-ness ;) I too would have gone and blown loads of money, after all spending & shopping help you to forget for a while (i'm honestly not advocating lol just understand where you are coming from)

And things like that happening with your sister certainly do put things into perspective (even for a 3rd party viewer like me)

    big hugs to you xxx

  • Banwa,

Sorry for not posting recently, your diary disappeared from my subscription list and I only realised today when you posted on my diary. Not quite sure what happened there. :o

I am so sorry to hear how poorly your sister has been, but also really glad that she has been moved to a normal ward and is on the mend. I can imagine how stressful and upsetting it has all been for you. It really does take these things to make you sit up and realise where your priorities are, and I agree living your life with a debt millstone hanging around your neck isn't one of them.

Don't feel guilty about your spends, well and truly deserved in the circumstances I believe.

I'm loving your usage of your new decanter, I have 3 gathering dust in the cupboard, so may dig them out, give them a clean up and use for the apple juice !

Take Care and best wishes to you all.
