Hi Banwa
A family member of mine had a similar problem and it gained momentum in a downward spiral - the worse it got the less he wanted to work on it. I'm not a harbinger of doom but there could be a couple of underlying issues - business is slow (sorry I dont know what the trade is so could be wrong) and he doesnt know how/what to say. Or he maybe isnt enjoying it any more. They were both significant factors in my dude giving up self employment and going back to paid work.As God is my witness, as God is my witness they're not going to lick me. I'm going to live through this and when it's all over, I'll never be hungry again0 -
He's a lorry driver. He is employed by a company but he is contracted for 40 hours, but usually gets a load of overtime. Like all lorry drivers, the overtime is what makes it a reasonable wage. Ideally he does around 60 hours, has a couple of nights out and brings home £45o per week. But their work has been slow lately. We do sometimes get these lulls and then it picks back up again, but this has been a long lull. It seems that some of the more vocal drivers are getting the hours, but because he is quite easy-going, he's not.
He got an application form for another company that were recruiting, but took so long to take it into them the jobb had been filled. He rang an agency he used to work for who said yes, they had plenty of work and would ring him to arrange an assessment, and because they never rang him back, he didn't get any. He should have followed it up. He should be being more vocal at his current job.
I wouldn't mind him getting less work if I thought he was at least trying to get more.
Thanks for listening to the whinging:(Debt £26k 18/10/140 -
Rant away, if you cant do it here where can you? Hopefully its just a January lull and it picks up soon xAs God is my witness, as God is my witness they're not going to lick me. I'm going to live through this and when it's all over, I'll never be hungry again0

Hello everyone, and thak you for the lovely supportive comments the other night. Sorry for not responding earlier, I was still sulking a bit (not with you guys obviously) and I haven't felt like I have anything positive to say.
Anyway today I feel much better so I thought I better post. I feel like I lose momentum if I don't
Good Things since I last posted:j- No more falling out with Mr B, although the subject has not been broached since. I think perhaps he does feel bad about the whole situation and I am not helping by being all scowly. His work is in peaks and troughs, I will feel better when we are out of this trough.
- I have my end of year review at work on Tuesday, so it has made my start thinking about my career options. I have thought for a long time that I would like to get into 'finance' and finally talked to someone about it on Friday. I have been putting it off because I thought the person would laugh at me and say 'you? in finance? but you're an eejit!' which of course he didn't, in fact he couldn't have been more encouraging. So feeling quite fired up, am going to make my intention known now and start pushing for what I want (which is a CIMA qualification)
- Ran three miles yesterday so feeling good about all that too. It was mega windy and I was exhausted when we got back, and if Mr B hadn't been there and quite literally give me shove, I might have given up. But I didn't.:D
- Need to update my signature but we are chipping away at the debt. Feeling really good about spends being under control.
- Washed the car!
- Didn't drink on any of the school nights this week and made 1 bottle of wine last Friday and Saturday night (they are the nights I set no restriction).
- I missed a credit card payment! Can't believe I did that...I really try hard not to do that.
- Overdraft doesn't seem to be going away. I thought i would have it all paid off on Friday (payday) but now I think we will need it until February payday. Grrrrr. I am keeping within budget for spends so I really don't understand it.
£1.95 cut flowers
£16.8 cat food (yes more while it's still on offer)
£29 groceries
£34 groceries
£3 cleaning and toiletries
£3 on birthday cards
£10 alcohol
Hope everyone else is being good

Hi Banwa
Glad to hear you are feeling better since your tiff with Mr B. I often feel the same about Mr Been (sorry, had to do that :rotfl:) too as he has the "luxury" of not being as close to the money as me, and can therefore live in relative denial. He does his bit though and is especially good at negotiating/find good deals.
That sounds like a good career choice. PM me if I can help, I have experience in this area.

I wish you well if you go down that route. (CIMA)
I did a home study course with the AAT and completed their three levels at NVQ 2, 3 & 4. I considered ACCA & CIMA. In the other I didn't do any. This was because of the cost and I couldn't get a job in accounting and never did. :mad:June 16 Mortgage Amount £82,896.15
Official mortgage end date August 2027
Current rate 2.59% until August 20200
