I too have never heard of vinegar flies so googled it.....ewwwww wish I hadn't bothered :rotfl:
I know them more commonly as fruit flies. In the height of summer I have had one or two in my kitchen when a piece of fruit has gotten over ripe and split in the bottom of the fruit bowl.
I worked in a food factory years ago that processed mostly fruit. We used to get plagued by them....I mean literally hundreds of them would appear in the factory over night.....it was gross.

My OH is a great fan of Stardrops cleaner but, because the liquid is quite thin compared to other brands, there is a tendency to use use too much of the liquid when you squirt it.

The hole in the cap is really a bit on the large side so my money-saving tip is to drill a hole through the flap which covers the hole and then leave the flap shut for most small jobs. I drilled a hole in the flap of about half the diameter of the one in the cap - the bottle lasts much longer now.

    Hope this is useful.

I use mine diluted into a spray bottle so a bottle lasts me for months.

Why not dilute it with water?
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

  • Just curious, have never bought Stardrops and wonder if its main ingredient is Washing Soda?. It seem to accomplish all the jobs that you say Stardrops does.

Stardrops, vinegar and water in a spray bottle for me!

My OH seems to think that a dilute Stardrops spray is too soapy - and we're in a hard-water area. Perhaps the mix (1:1:1 Stardrops:Vinegar:Water) was too strong on Stardrops.

Must admit, it hadn't occurred to us to use a spray when doing the laundry or the washing-up, though.

And use sparingly - my main 1000mm x 600mm worktop takes just 1 squirt.

    Great tip!

I have just used a darning needle to make a hole in the lid, if only I can now remember to stop lifting the flipping lid up and squirting it.

    :)

I don't like diluting mine, I prefer to use it neat.
