Rant - tom cat harassing my cats

  • I have had to report a cat not being looked after to the rspca before. Heard them talking through the walls 'what do you want me to do about it? Kill it? '. Once again the owner was Polish and had an english girlfriend who clearly wasn't keen on the cat either. Now I must stress that I am not saying that to descriminate-I have only mentioned it because it has been mentioned here already. The rspca did come out but the owner didn't answer their door the first time and the second time they just said they didn't have the cat anymore. My point is if the owners were confronted by the rspca they would only need to say the cat wasn't theirs and that would be that. Sadly unless it is more serious the rspca do not have a great deal of power in situations like this.

Personally although it could be classed as theft I have to say if I was in your circumstances I'd try and get the cat neutered without the owner knowing. Also a general health check would be good. The chances are he may have fleas and/or worms. If you were to say he was a stray living in your area who you give food and want to get checked out and neutered,I can't see any reason why this couldn't be a practical solution. Best of luck!

The RSPCA will come out if he appears neglected. Judging by what you've said about the condition of his skin, they would investigate. Not seeking treatment for an ailment contravenes the Animal Welfare Act, and the RSPCA take this very seriously.

Give them a call and get it logged.

Is there any reason why the owner would object to neutering if you offered to pay for it? You might not need to kidnap him which would only cause more conflict.

I do nto think this is money issue as they do not seem to be short from what I can see. It is as Paddypaws suspected - "cultural" issue rather grrr
  • I borrowed a trap from Cats Protection to capture a 'stray' which I then took to CP for neutering. I gave them a donation of £30 to cover the vets fee then brought home the 'stray' and released him! No more bullying, spraying nasty tom cat terrorising my own cats. Strange to say but I didn't see him much after that!

But if they don't really care either way they won't object will they? As long as they aren't out any money for it...

WEll if this is as I suspect "cultural" issue then they would - as cat with no... is not a cat for some people... sigh....
  • We also have an entire black tom (spooky eh!) that lives a few houses down the lane. We have asked (nicely) the owners on four or five occasions to please have their cat neuteured as he keeps picking fights with all the neighbours cats in their own gardens, in fact he injured next doors timid ginger boy to the tune of £150 vets bill, they were most unhappy and I'd have been very tempted to demand the vet bill be paid, or in part at least. We've waterpistolled him, screamed and shouted, thrown handfuls of soil, husband actually grabbed him once as he was on top of one of our cats and dumped him back in his own garden. Finally, one day a few months ago, I heard the familiar shriek of a catfight starting up and went running out around the back garden, husband ran out the front and we 'met' in the lane - to see the horrid black cat again with our adopted big tabby boy (who looks big and tough but isn't really) the fighting was so fierce the two cats were a blur - husband somehow managed to seperate the cats, ours shot under a hedge and the black cat was all set to chase after him, husband bravely grabbed him and ignoring the growling and attempts to bite him, took him to his house, shoved him in via the open patio door shouted loudly something to the effect of 'keep your blankety blank psycho cat under control or.... else......!!!' Meanwhile, our cat was enticed out from under the hedge and there was the most enormous tumbleweed of ripped out fur floating in the breeze. I assumed it was tabby fur and started crying, but we checked our boy all over and he was fine, a couple of very small scratches on his chest. In fact he seemed mightily pleased with himself and after a tuna snack, wanted to go straight back out again. I can only assume that far from my assumption that tabby boy was beaten up - nasty black cat came off far worse and on examining the chunks of fluffy fur blowing about, they were greyish black........ We haven't seen it since hanging about outside, though it's been spotted on a windowsill. Not the most ideal end to the saga I admit, but for now all is quiet on the home front.

When I was a teenager, I was out in a villege (that we eventually moved too) and I saw a cute black cat and picked it up - IT SPRAYED ON ME!

I had to sit on a bus home STINKING for 40minutes, I bet everyone thought I had weed myself :(:(

Must be something about black cats and spraying *note to self, never get a male black cat :p*
